Postmen and women

phsend

First XI
Just watching the Panorama programme and is strikes me that I honestly cannot fault the excellent job postmen/women do.

I have never had anything go missing and I buy a load of stuff online.

I know there are at least one or two posties here on Shrimperzone.

Cheers for a great service lads - some of your managers come across as unreasonable morons though - yeah we want our mail but we don't expect people to be under totally unreasonable pressure to deliver it!

PS

Some woman was moaning that their postman had not tried to deliver a large package but had left a red card instead...I don't blame them, if you know its going to be too big for the letterbox and chances are they won't be in to receive it, it makes sense to me to stick a card through and let the receiver arrange when they want to collect it or arrange for it to be redelivered at a convenient time.

Been out this evening so i've Sky+'ed it. Had a couple of texts about it so will hopefully catch it this evening, if not tomorrow morning (well midday then ;-)) once home from work!

Im not sure how it came across but guessing it was fairly positive in the "average" postie favour and am glad to hear it, if it is the case! As i've said before, in the bigger offices you might get a dodgy face or two but in the smaller offices its not as easy to get away with things and think every does an "honest" job!

They are asked to walk 6.44 kph now I entered that on my treadmill last night on a flat incline and its a ****ing joke nobody walks like that for ****!

Just watched it now and thought Mr Toolhurst came across as a plum and denied most stuff that is actually true. All this "the mail is dropping 10% a year" stuff is total dog poo! Makes me giggle everytime i hear it, thats for sure! Its a shame people haven't made a few more comments on this thread but im used to the occassional snipe by both people on SZ & on the street and you just tend to ignore it.

The less said about pegasus the better. Like Scott says, no-one could maintain that! Especially when we a couple of 50+ posties at our office and a couple of fat gits! The **** really is going to hit the fan IMO come 2010 and despite working for RM for over 5 years, my job could well be in danger as im still one of the more "junior" posties in the office! Make or break 12 months for the business and come this time next year, i still think the same issues will be there and the trust still wont be there, either.

You are Kev, and I claim my £5

What made me laugh was that the Royal Marine who trains people to walk this fast over long distances, could not keep up the 4. something miles per hour average over the posties round, and he was only delivering a flyer, so he didn't have to check the names and addresses on the post before putting through, and didn't have to knock and wait on parcels and packages and fill out and put through the lettter box, the undelivered parcel card.

So if he can't do it when he had such a massive advantage, then nobody can do it.
I should imagine they also get a bit slower and more fatigued as the week goes on as well.

You rarely get 2 days off straight though, although I guess it maybe depends on the way each delivery office is setup.

The one I had experience of briefly last year, you got each Sunday off but your other day off in the week was a week plus one after your last free day. E.g. Wk 1 you got Sun & Mon, Wk2 Sun & Tue, Wk3 Sun & Wed etc etc etc.

Not the job for me and fair play to all the people who do do a good job (this is coming from a RM customer who is awaiting my last Xmas parcel which seems to have gone walkies)...especially as well with the majority of managers seeming to have to live up to this "us & them" mentality which in turn alienates the very people who they're trying to manage and (yeah right) motivate to perform.
