Every one of our home matches against Portsmouth in the last 20 years (all three of them) has finished 2-1 to us. A repeat would be useful.

Tomorrow's referee is Graham Scott from Abingdon in Oxfordshire. He is in his 7th season as a Football League referee and this will be his 8th Southend match. (It would be his ninth, but the 'second' didn't happen due to the appropriately Antarctic weather at the time.)

The first match was the home JPT defeat by Orient in 2008/9. He then did an away match at Gillingham - the Easter defeat in 2009/10 and then, more recently, the 2011/12 home game against Morecambe (a red card for Jevons and 2 yellows for them). Next he oversaw our abject performance in the home debacle against Bradford City. Then we had our first win with him when we, and he, breezed through the 3-0 home win over Barnet in the same season. That was the match of course when Mohsni scored a hat-trick in about 20 minutes !!

A later Southend match was Mohsni's comeback game - the 2-1 home defeat to Northampton which went less well for Mohsni who was red-carded and three of theirs (including Gutteridge) saw yellow.

Then, most recently, Boxing Day last year at Wimbledon when a Woodrow goal gave us a 1-0 win with 2 yellows and a red for them and cautions for Atkinson, Straker and Eastwood.

Certainly when I've seen him he has, like last Saturday's referee, seemed a little over eager to reach for his cards, but his decisions are more right than wrong. He is an official I would generally prefer to see doing our home matches. He is quite highly rated and gets loads of Championship appointments.

His card count is usually high but he really hasn't got going yet this season with just 16 yellows and a red from 7 matches.

He has refereed Portsmouth 5 times and they've lost every single one !

Assisting Mr Scott will be Andrew Aylott from Kempston and Ashvin Degnarain from Islington. Fourth Official will be military man, Stephen Finch from Southampton who co-incidentally ran the line in our excellent win at Fratton Park last season. - yet another 2-1 win !!

Interesting that this thread has now made it on to page 2. I assume the reason is that no-one has anything to moan about?

Personally I thought he was one of the best referees I have seen at Roots Hall for a very long time. I thought he handled the game very well. I particularly liked the way he seemed to handle the Portsmouth diving by calling their captain over to have a word with him...or at least that's how I interpreted it.

Have seen a lot worse, thought he got more than his fair share of simple decisions wrong for both sides, but got the key ones correct and let the game flow, which contributed to the entertainment.
