One of the most honest and funny statements I've ever heard from a manager at an after match conference!!.

I think it's safe to say he will be leaving shortly..

Port Vale coach Mark Grew slammed the players as the worst he had ever worked with after a 3-1 defeat at Leyton Orient.

Luke Rodgers had given Vale a first-half lead before a triple blow in the space of six second-half minutes ruined their afternoon. Tamika Mkandawire grabbed the first, before Jabo Ibehre doubled the lead and Adam Boyd converted a penalty conceded by keeper Joe Anyon.

The defeat leaves Vale rooted in the bottom two, while Orient surged back to the summit.

An emotional Grew said he would be seeking talks with Vale chairman Bill Bratt to discuss his future.

He said: "I've just told the players they are gutless, spineless.

"They are the worst bunch of players I've ever seen at Port Vale in 17 years. I'm not trying to kid any fans - they are gutless.

"We played all right in the first half and got the goal, but then conceded one and packed it in. That's spineless for me, without question. They've got no bottle.

As soon as it gets a little bit hard they hide.

"I want to say some home truths. There are too many people saying we're trying to do this, and trying to do that. The players here at the minute are nowhere near good enough to survive a league down, never mind this league.

"I wish I was a magician and could get rid of them, but some are on good contracts so we can't do it. There's not many I would keep.

"I've had enough. I want to see the chairman on Monday morning. That's how strongly I feel.

"I've been associated with this club for 17 years and I'm embarrassed to be associated with that bunch, so I'm not sure I want to be invoved anymore."

Caretaker boss Dean Glover also criticized the players for a lack of passion as they slumped to a fourth straight defeat.

He said: "To be in front like we were and then come out 10 minutes into the second half and be 3-1 down, we can't explain how we feel.

"We didn't have enough passion, enough spine in the team. The front two worked hard but unfortunately behind them they didn't have anyone else to support them.

"Unfortunately we can't defend a lead.

We can't accept those performances - that's why we're down the bottom. We can't afford to carry people like that at the moment, but unfortunately there are too many of them."

Fair play to him, it's nice to see a bit of upfront honesty for once!.

:hilarious: :hilarious:

I remember Grew when he was Ipswich's goalie.
He tended to speak his mind then too (think he was the No1 the year the got relegated from Div1 in the mid 80s).
He was brought up a Vale fan so no wonder he's so annoyed at their current plight!

He's not wrong. The first half was a Conference-standard game, with them scoring a crap goal from their only chance. Second half when we lifted it up to League Two standard they folded and gave up. Appalling side aside from the front two. Completely understand how the coach could be that embarrassed by them - we did feck-all and should have had 10 second half (not a joke).

that is a statment and a half. but home truths are often needed, not excuses or just talking crap like most managers do and avoid answering the question. i like straight talking managers.

He shouldn't get that sack for that. Someone needs to get the message across to the players that they're sh!t...!
