Now that Port Vale have come out of administration any one know if they will incur a points penalty a la Pompey.
Not that I have anything against them but like some others on here I think we will catch the Gills & Vale will be our main rivals. Providing of course we can keep this squad together.

I thought the same thing... but do you not incur the points deduction once you enter administration, rather than when you exit? Be handy if they lost 10 points though!! ;)

They had them deducted last year didnt they? Cant be punished twice if so.

Why would they leave it till they come out, surely you should be punished immediately ? Did wonder why Pompey hadnt had a deduction though. League Two for them when they come off then.

10 points off when you go into administration and additional penalties if a CVA is not in place when the league places are confirmed (june I think) as the league can refuse to accept clubs in administration

Both Port Vale and Pompey went into Administration last season

Isn't it a bit 'clutching at straws' when you base your league position on the hope that other clubs get points deducted?

Indeed Rob, if we have to rely on other teams losing points it means we dont deserve to go up.

Worthy though that may seem Jam Man, the reason there are points deductions is to redress the balance where some clubs have gained an unfair advantage through not previously abiding by the laws of good financial management, against those who have (i.e. splashing the cash to get ahead and then falling back on the safety net of administration if it goes tits up).

Of course every case is different and Vale's problems may not be untoward in any way (I'm not familiar with them) but it is too simplistic to take the moralistic view that the sanction which is intended to incentivise good financial management and thus an equal playing field is in itself unfair if you don't consider what caused the penalty to be applied.

Not sure we can take the moral high ground when it come to good fiscal management...

We can if we haven't gone into administration. Nor can many clubs claim much moral high ground here. More like 'only slightly higher than the lowest ground possible', where the lowest is administration... and then the above principle applies.

As with anything else in this murky world, you deserve to take the rap if you've been caught breaking the rules. That makes the name of the game not necessarily sticking to the rules, but just making sure you don't get caught breaking them.

If you're lax enough to get caught, you deserve the punishment. Looks like Port Vale did theirs last year, and there'll be many more on this forum who will never know how we've not yet been in the same position.

I'm sure they mentioned on the Football League programme last Saturday that they were facing a points deduction for coming out! Now I know loads of people who have come out.......................sorry different meaning :winking:
