Can anyone with knowledge of these things explain exactly what Risdale's role is here, and with other clubs he has been at that have nearly gone tits up? He always seems to be connected to teams in financial trouble.....is that because he goes in there once they are already having problems as some kind of trouble shooter, he is a common cause, or is he just unlucky?

In Risdale's defence, he's only just got involved with Plymouth... The trouble was brewing before he was even on the scene. The Leeds situation was entirely his fault, but he's been brought in as some form of consult for Plymouth as far as I'm aware. Plymouth plunged a lot of money into the WC2018 bid expecting Home Park to be announced as a venue and a lot of genuine financiers were interested in the project but, when Russia was pulled out of the envelope, the situation went a bit sour. Existing shareholders sold off their stakes in the club and a secretive Japanese businessman bought into the idea of a football club, promising investment that never materialised.

The word from Japan is that he does indeed have the wealth, but it's tied up in property (sound familiar?) and he's having trouble selling off that property to raise the capital. Of course, if Plymouth were more prudent the situation wouldn't have got as severe as it currently is but that seems to be the game of football in The Championship.

Correct.He's local apparently and was invited as a consultant to raise interest in the WC bid.I have my BBC/ITV channels set to Devon/Cornwall SW news and he often pops up on the local sports news-as he did last night.
