Tomorrow's referee is Tim Robinson from Bognor Regis (not to be confused with the cricket umpire of the same name).

He is in just his second season as a League referee and has progressed well and has already been given a few Championship matches this season.

His first appearance at Roots Hall was his first ever League match and our 1-0 home defeat to Accrington at the start of last season. A forgettable match, like most of Sturrock's home games last season. He cautioned Prosser and a couple of theirs and whilst he wasn't wonderful, he has certainly improved.

That improvement was evident in the other Southend match he has refereed, the drawn home match with Bristol Rovers earlier this season when I thought he had a very good match. He cautioned 4 of theirs and for us, again, Prosser. Prosser was actually very lucky his yellow wasn't a red !

His card count is average; 53 yellows and 2 reds from 16 games.

Assistants are Simon Knapp from Gloucester and Brett Huxtable from Barnstaple. There must be some spare referees this week as 4th official is League referee Brendan Malone from Salisbury.

So he hadn't improved that much then?!?

Personally, I would introduce a rule whereby all Assistant Referee's have to have a surname which rhymes with their home town. It is certainly a way forward.
