Playstation 3

Just got some info today,,,,,,quite a few of us have some interest in gaming and the ps3 looks to be an important release.

Estimated cost -  420 quid.

Estimated cost to Sony to build each console - 458 quid
( Estimates suggest Sony will be 573 million in debt initially )

What you realistically get if you buy a ps3 which actually makes it mega competative -

A DVD PLAYER
A PSONE
A PS2
A SONY BLU-RAY PLAYER
A PLACE TO STORE MUSIC
A PLACE TO STORE MOVIES
A PLACE TO STORE PHOTOS
A VIDEOPHONE
AN INTERNET BROWSER
A HUB FOR A PSP.

Great value when you look at it really.

The thing is though, most people have got all of that anyway, with the exception of the blu-ray thingy, and the console itself, so why bother splashing out the £420-450 when the other couple of new consoles are so much cheaper?

The PSP
Is it worth it?
I'm thinking of getting one but am unsure as the games look pretty uninspiring.

You wont be able to play any new games going forward. The rest are just convenient options.

My gripe with PS2 is it looks rubbish on a 36" TV as the resolution is too low.

With so many people having plasmas etc now the biggest step forward for me is a better resolution.

I absolutely love my PSP - as you probably guess from my Shrimperzone posting name, I work in the City, and so have to commute via the train. Loads of time to use, hence a PSP is the dogs doo daas. Favourite game at the moment? Everybody's Golf - brilliant.

I've got a 360 and I'm looking forward to the drop in prices when PS3 comes out. Although I was initially sceptical, I think Wii may take a big chunk out of Sony's market share.

For a great summing up in the style of the "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" ads, have a gander at this:
