Players wages collection

Badger74

Manager
To show Ron we want to help why dont we do a collection this saturday at the ground and on Monday night at the meeting to show we care about the players.
Even if we collected £1000 the players would know we ae trying and would certainly show Ron on Monday night that we can help!!!!
Dont know if the trust could organize something like this

Haven't the trust already loaned a significant amount to the club to pay some wages? Also at the hearing last week wasn't it mentioned that a third party would be paying Februarys wages?

I agree with your sentiment but I'm not sure about a bucket collection to be honest. There are many worse off than the players of Southend United.

Not sure this is a great idea after the last time the Trust ran a bucket collection at the ground and the negativity that was subsequently directed towards them. As Lester says, the trust have already loaned some £60k (I think) to the club and there's only so much that they can do.

I'm all for the trust running their own fundraising or doing anything that may be deemed necessary to help the club out but ultimately any amount that they are likely to raise is not going to cover very much of the wage bill at all. The money could likely be put to better use elsewhere in my opinion.

This is something we as fans should not get involved with, the PFA are currently involved directly with the players and the club, we should let the PFA do their work.

The players already know we are behind them 100% and this should be shown again, by getting behind the team on Saturday.

We are already contributing by buying match tickets, programmes and half time burgers (minus onions :whistling:).

There are a lot of us searching for a job at the moment, with endless knock-backs. I've personally never been so skint. And yet we still try and support Southend as much as we can.

At the end of the day, quite a few of the players are on over a grand a week for working about 16-20 hours. They should try living on 65 quid jobseekers allowance a week. Trust me, it is impossible.

As I am 24 and not 25 I get even less then that about £50 a week!!!

I certainly would not donate again, last time my family donated over £50, that money has now been loaned to Ron Martin interest free, we were not consulted before this was done. I know that if another collection was arranged it would probably not be through the trust, but because i feel we were conned and cheated by the trust i would be reluctant to put myself in that position again, no matter who was organising it. Apart from that the PFA are now involved and i know that the players will be looked after by them. Nice thought and if the players do read this i am sure that they would feel 'warmed' by the fact that they are being thought of. Nice one.

A tad harsh I think.

Personnely I feel we should be having a collection for poor old RM, after all he has allegidly not taken a penny from the club but has put in millions of his OWN cash, so come on guys what do you think?

lets march on the Palace Hotel buckets on hand and give poor old Ron Martin and family a meal out on us.......

I thought part of the role of the trust was to help out the club in it's hour of need. A loan to to the club to enable it to come out of a transfer embargo seems fair to me - I would be disappointed if they chose not to do so and just racked up the interest at about 2% PA.

Back on topic, we know the players have been paid for January albeit from the PFA loan - do we know if the non playing staff have also been paid?

Absolutely no to a 'collection'. The players are in no doubt that they have our support, judging by the sheer numbers that turn up to watch a team nearer to Conference standard than Div 1.

Mr Martin will get out of this by the skin of his teeth very soon - hopefully he will not be hailed as a hero for the way he has (mis)handled the running of our Club over the past two years and any contribution made now is meaningless.
