Well here is my player for the 'silly season'. People have mentioned Macheda or Sears on loan, but to me how about SUFC get in an experienced centre-back as it seems Clarkey is on his way out, in the shape of Ricardo Carvalho. And I quote from BBC Sport:

I think there might be some mileage in the Carvalho story. A good mate of mine reckons he saw him this afternoon over at Argos by the airport. Apparently someone who looked a lot like Carvalho but a bit smaller (he didn't say whether it was a bloke or not) had the number before my mate and picked up a 50 piece stainless steel kitchen starter set and a Minky easy loader clothes airer. As he carried these rather cumbersome items out to a nearby white mini metro my mate naturally called out 'Oi Ricardo, is it true you are coming to Roots Hall?' but Carvalho didn't answer as he was struggling to get his car keys out of his tracksuit bottoms whilst his arms were full. My mate said Carvalho then pulled out of the car park and headed off towards Rochford. Make of that what you will.

No point cutting off our nose to spite our faces surely ORM? Also if we have just done a bit better we might have made the play offs and got promoted and then Clarkey might have ended up staying.
