We have managed 1 win out of 8 play off games and that was only because of a "dubious" penalty.

We have to finish in the top 3 next season!

Of course you are right, its irrational but I just wouldn't feel confident if we got into the play-offs again next season.

I love the play offs though - much more exciting than finishing third. I'd take finishing first though - I could live with that!

We have made the play offs 4 times and qualified once. With obviously 4 teams qualifying that puts our win ratio statistically where you would expect it.

I suspect there are many teams with a worst record than ours.....Preston for example have made the plays offs 9 times and failed every time!

yeah their fans must really hate the play-offs!

That's 1 play off win out of 8, there's 4 teams in the play offs so on average you'd expect to win 2 out of 8 play offs, nothing that strange about our record.

I think the year we beat Lincoln in the final, that was the 4th successive season they had made the play-offs. Losing twice in the semis, and twice in the final.
And we think we're unlucky!

Wow - I knew we hadn't done brilliantly, but that is amazingly bad.

Bearing in mind they have been in effect since 1987, only "qualifying" is either great (we get promoted automatically if we get promoted) or rubbish, that we never just miss out.

To be honest, apart from the Wembley trip, I would prefer to finish 3rd (like in 1989/90).

Also shows that we aren't a "cup" team...

Errr there is a 25% chance of success from the play offs. We have won promotion once in four attempts. We are exactly where the maths say we should be.
