The good news about being in the planning stage is we have a bit of power in our hands. I'd be interested to know if many on here would be supportive of signing a petition to present to council planning officials, for consideration when approving the new stadium plans.

My proposal would be a simple petition requesting the plans are only approved if the club offers a guarantee the '4th side' will be built within 12months of the first three sides. Something along those lines...

Just a thought....

There can be no such guarantee ever given like that. This was one of the considerations when the Council approved it last time.

Please, please, please, people. I have said this so many times.

THE PLAN IS NOT TO HAVE A 3 SIDED STADIUM!

However, because they will be being built at different times - I believe that this is because the ownership of the 4th stand will be different to the other three - it is necessary to apply for the first 3 sides first. In considering whether to grant this or not, the Council had to consider what action could be taken if the 4th stand never got built due to unforeseen circumstances - like Ron Martin's death for instance - and they decided that there was none. Therefore, the question they had to consider was whether they would give permission if the application was actually only for a 3 sided stadium.

They decided that yes, they would.

This is not my opinion, this was all in the documents published at the time of the decision being made. It's in the public domain if you want to find it.

However, back then Ron was public enemy number 1 and everyone jumped on the 3 sided stadium idea and came up with incredible conspiracy theories as to why.

I'm not saying it won't or can't happen, because no-one can guarantee that, which is exactly the point. What I'm saying is that it is not the intention to have 3 sides as there can be absolutely no guarantee that the 4th stand will be built, in the same way that I can't guarantee I will attend the next home game. I might, and probably will, but things happen.

It's not the plan, but it is a risk.. If the right provisions aren't in place

Yes, it is a risk.

And if there is a condition that the 4th stand is built within 12 months, as you say, then what can be done if it isn't?

Yeah another obstacle is just the thing. I still think we will be at roots hall for many years to come. The council have been messed about time after time for years now. I have a feeling they will tell ron to do one

Unbelievable. The club spend years trying to put a new plan in place and then some wanna write a petition to make sure the club do it on "our" terms. Why don't you leave it down to people that actually know what they are doing? You can make Ron jokes and digs...but the fella is a multi-millionaire property developer...knows a thing or two about this I think.

Not sure about that bit... gross, maybe, not net. He also has millions of pounds of debt.

Ron is personally solvent. Otherwise he wouldn't be in his current position.

Agreed. But I'm solvent and am not a multi millionaire.

In all honesty I have no idea, he may well be personally very wealthy and looking at his lifestyle it gives that impression, but I think most of what he has is in hock.

A better idea is for all of us to send in written support of these plans to the local Council when the time comes. You can bet your life all the NIMBYS in the area will come crawling out of the woodwork with complaints about traffic congestion etc.

The Council cannot turn down an application based on the applicant or indeed previous applications. The scheme has to be looked at on it's own merits.

I'm pretty sure that Oxford didn't "plan" to have a 3 three sided stadium either, but it's what they ended up with!
Its certainly a risk whenever there is a phased implementation.

Yep and at least Oxford have a main stand. How many new grounds have been built without a main stand?

So my suggestion would, that the onward sale of Roots Hall isn't permitted, UNTIL the 4th side had been completed. Simples
