Pitch invasion 5-a-side

Is there anybody on here who plays, or has played, in the Southend league? I used to play on Wednesday nights down in Brighton, and I've been suffering some serious withdrawal symptoms since I moved back to this area. I'm really just looking to get an idea of what the atmos and organisation are like. I'm pleased to see that at least it's not played on astroturf as my knees and elbows are already a patchwork of scar tissue from the Brighton league.

Used to play a few years back - it was on concrete outside, against loads of little mugs. One team threatened a meet-up with another team after their game, and it all used to kick off most weeks. The refs were awful, one night the coppers got involved with some muggy team and they didnt give us back our deposit.

i quite liked it

Cheers, that's interesting - on the website it says that it's not played on an all-weather surface, which I'd assumed meant it was on grass.

Most teams in the Brighton league were friendly enough, but there were always the odd exceptions. One of my enduring memories is of a 20st neanderthaal hastily trying to arrange a fight in the carpark against an opponent who had apparently been blowing him kisses throughout the game - insert your own Brighton joke.

Played there a few times bit never regularly. In allh onesty, the games were tame compared to our league in Pompey where we somehow ended up in the same league as an army team who, in no uncertain terms, told us they were going to murder us. Good times, Luckily, one time the referee booked one of their players for making such a death threat.

Hate to think of what happened to the team whose game plan (without having played them previously) was to 'rough them up'

Dearly departed, we are gathered here today......
