Phillistines !

Have just enjoyed a convesration with someone from South Africa. There we were by the tea making counter and I was suprised by how much attention and time they were taking to brew the tea, the tea-bag getting a healthy steep and squeeze. The Saffa commented, "making tea is an art, you need to take time, and it will taste perfect". Marvellous I thought, this is what the empire *puffs out chest* was built on.
He then proceeded to fill the cup with three UHT milk cartons and 4 sugars. Arggghhhhhhhhhhh !!! :thump:

What other phillistine moments have you come across ?

My ex who literally smothered everything I cooked in chilli sauce, this after I crafted delicate flavours with my skills.

ahh but chilli enhances those flavours... my mum has finally given in because i smother tabasco and chillis on aboslutely everything!

No no no no and no. Your taste buds are dead mate!

haha i do have an asbestos mouth.. but i don't put it on everything, just things like spaghetti, shepherds pie etc etc. i really enjoy cooking and often don't put chillis in but i really love hot food!

Shepherds pie & spaghetti - ok, I can forgive that :)

But lemon sole in a beurre blanc sauce with a field mushroom risotto NO!

I used to get well ****ed off with my ex-bird as not matter what I cooked she would smother it im tomato sauce.....

Why's that? Most professional kitchens are staffed by men....the majority of celebrity chefs are men.

I'm crap at DIY, car maintenance and most sports but a minor whizz in the kitchen (or so I like to think) :)

Cup of tea isn't worth drinking unless it has an inch of evaporated milk in it!

The one thing I do miss about the UK is a good strong polystyrene cup of tea from the greasy in Scrutton Street just off Great Eastern Street. It tasted wonderful ... and the double egg-and-bacon sarnies weren't bad either ...
