I dont think we need another midfielder as O Toole clearly is. As expressed in many comments above who would that put out of place? They may be unfair rumours but allegedly not a Team Player? He signed a 3 year contract with the Cobblers, would that mean a fee?
O Toole has played 143 games in the past 5 years, scoring just 19 goals in total. Admittedly he had a good year , last year with Brizzle Rovers. He has apparantly ( Cobblers website) played 15 times this year and scored.........NIL. His disciplinary record is the second worse in the club with 4 yellows. His contribution in total to Northamptons goals in 15 games is TWO assists, wow!! His past 5 year goalscoring average is 1 in 8 games, Two minutes ago Phil said our goalscorers would come good and promptly backs that up with sending Barney out on loan. In his Echo comments about OToole he says we do NOT have an abundance of strikers , really? hence his interest in O' Toole ??? Incidentally Cobblers list 5 strikers , 3 of whom have hit 19 goals between them. ( Corr, Weston and Coulthirst 7 ) Dont tell me , Northampton play a different formation that magically helps there 3 strikers score 19 goals, and look where they are in the league? No thanks, Phil , have another weeks break and re-think?

Those stats are truly shocking

Which means we will sign him on a 5 year deal!

Losing the will .

We have what he is looking for already - Conor Clifford, Worrall, Hurst, Lenny, Timlin, Jack Payne. Will Atkinson.
Just what is wrong with PB? He is fast becoming a midfield shopaholic!

Now here's a thing Phil -,why not try playing to suit the abundance of talent that our side already has - most of whom you brought in - rather than keep bleating on about what you need to suit your one style of Plan A?
If I was Ron I'd be keeping my money firmly in the bank and be telling PB to go out and do what him and his entourage are paid for - Win Games & get promotion.

Another midfielder? REALLY Phil?

And a bad apple at that, call me a cynic but you have to wonder what effect a player like that has on morale. Brizzle Rovers were a massive club at our level but dropped out of the league, now Northampton are massively underachieving considering they probably have one of L2's top 3 budgets. Hmmmmm.....

Hell Connor Clifford can't even get into our squad most weeks, a player who was our best performer for the first 2 months of the season and someone I believe will go on to better things in the future when he finally gets fed up of not getting a look in here.

No thanks. If Brown signs O'Toole I'll be hugely disappointed.

O'Toole is reputedly a heavy drinker. If that is true, Phil Brown will need to curb that problem immediately if he takes O'Toole on loan.

Where does Phil actually say he wants O'Toole? People now slating him for on the basis of a a rumour

That was true. When he was at Watford he was regularly getting into trouble for going out on the lash with his mates at various spots in town.

O'Toole is certainly a maverick - but he will score goals. If he ends up coming to Southend, he probably won't be the most popular player but he definitely is a player of League 1 calibre, at least. I think he'll make a positive difference to the side and its a gamble worth taking in my opinion.

His 72 appearances for Col U were very economical scoring TWO goals!

No thanks we are top heavy in midfield.

Surely a decent parent (Martin) should tell their child (Brown) that he's had enough sweeties (midfielders) now?

In my opinion he was poor against the Orient and he didn't show much pace -or much enthusiasm and didn't look fit. Why would we want to take him on loan and get him fit for the Cobblers?

Also sounds like he would fail Ron's DD tests - the interview that was posted on here a while back should be enough to deter any potential employer.

We are in greater need of a Phil Chisnall/Dave Elliott/Kevin Maher type of cultured passing midfielder and in even greater need of a big goalscoring centre forward.

But we have BBBC until June.:winking:
