Peter Daley got goal of the season against col u away back in 1990. The club never sent him his trophy. Well I must say well done to the trust as before my 40th birthday game peter will be presented with a trophy that the trust has arranged. If you fancy popping down to roots hall kick off is 18.30 and am hearing the drum will be out!

That goal was superb. It also gave us the absolute glee of giving us a huge promotion boost and sending Col U to the brink of non-league.
Was a stupendous day.

Factual Correction:-

The club at the time didn't do a goal of the season. The Supporters Club (aka Blues on Tour) did. He got a trophy. It was given to him on the pitch before the Southend v Spurs friendly. I know this, coz it was me who gave it to him and I clearly remember Gazza being thoroughly unpleasant in the tunnel.

I was just musing over my youth and time spent with the Blues, when my mind ventured back to Peter (mines a pint) Daley. I have known a fair few players in the past but Peter was the only one that would knock for me and take me down the pubs in Rochford. A great guy and did he celebrate with us after that goal. Shame his career never hit the heights.

'Shame his career never hit the heights' - think you may have pointed out one of the reasons.

That goal was one of THE great moments of follow Southend United. It was well into such a vital "must win" game for both clubs. Our end went absolutely be seek and prompted the great experience of seeing Col U fans in tears. It virtually pushed yhem out of the Football League while giving us a great chance of promotion. One of the most pivotal goals in have seen...and at Layer Road.

I remember it well and agree with most of what you say,but actually the goal wasn't pivotal at all.Benji had put us ahead in the first half and Daley's goal was in the dying minutes. The pigs failed to score throughout : 0-2.
