Peter Clarke Taking Pens

Stats

aka Ian Poulter
Why oh why did Peter Clarke get to take that penalty?

The bloke can hardly pass the ball accurately 10yds let alone place it into a small space 8ft by 8m with someone standing in the middle.

I assume we had 2 strikers on the pitch at the time of the penalty also a couple of midfielders who must of fancied it.

I doubt anyone knows more at the club about penalties than Peter Clarke. After all how many does he concede a season?

For me, straight after the goal that wasnt, the penalty decision was "sentimental".. a stupid decision, and one that could/may still cost us a place in round 2.

Laurent had the ball in his hands and I would have fancied him more. Having said that, I thought if the pen had been 3 inches more to the right, we all would have been saying "great pen" .. as it was, it wasnt, although I would prefer not to see Peter Clarke taking pens.

At least he had the bottle to step up and take it. Okay he didn't score but was unlucky as he hit the post.

It has to be all about who fancies it on the day if your regular penalty takers are not playing and Clarkie obviously did fancy it. I would have thought that one of Christophe, Laurant, Revell etc. might have been thought of as more likely to take the penalty than Peter but I give him credit for taking the responsibility in the 1st place even though his kick was unsuccessful.

That's a really weird size goal, 8ft by 8m?

Seriously, Clarke took penalties at Blackpool and has been our nominated taker since Hamell left, according to my mate.

I don't think their keeper got anywhere near it, straight onto the post from my view too.

Revs wanted it, and he used to take pens at Brighton too. I think due to the mysterious goal being chalked off, it was part lets let Clarkey take it and score, because he used to take pens too.

Saw it on ITV last night and Clarke hit the post and the goalkeeper was nowhere near it.

Clarke took penalties for Blackpool and he probably wanted to make up for his disallowed goal. It was a decent penalty, if it had been a couple in inches to the right we would've been saying what a good penalty it was. It's easy to say 'so and so should've taken it' but anyone can score or miss a penalty.

If my thinking is right I don't believe Clarke ever missed a pen for Blackpool, personally I have no problem with him on pens at least until Barney is back fit.

Don't think so Barnard took our only other penalty this season - successfully.

Peter Clarke was designated penalty taker once Leon Clarke went back to Sheffield. The next pen we got, Clarke was due to take by Barnie wouldn't let anyone else take it and he's since taken over as official penalty taker. In his absence it didn't surprise me at all to see Clarke take it.

It also didn't surprise me at all that he missed.

Ok clarky missed GET OVER IT!

you guys talk as if he wanted to miss it

mugs the lot of you

Apart from the mugs comment I agree with you. If he scored it wouldn't have been mentioned. Theoretically every player we have should be capable of scoring a penalty.

Everyone should score a penalty, Clarke was just unlucky at least it wasn't and embarrasing miss - ie a chip down the middle and the keeper stands there :D
