May 2006

THEY may be second in the S-League standings, but SAFFC have lost their English coach Peter Butler.

Club manager Kok Wai Leong confirmed that Butler has handed in his
resignation after just eight matches in charge.

The club are two points behind leaders the Young Lions but they have been struggling of late, going without a win in almost a month.

But Kok insisted Butler left because of personal matters.

“It was an amicable parting of ways. Butler had cited difficulties constantly ferrying to and from Kuala Lumpur, where his family lives, each weekend.”

The Warriors have installed Butler’s assistant, Richard Bok, as caretaker coach
until a replacement is found.

Bok, who has been with the club since the inception of the S-League in 1996, said that his first challenge would be to secure a win over Albirex Niigata this Friday at home at Choa Chu Kang Stadium.

He said: “The boys will just have to pick themselves up and rally as a team. It is a good chance for me to prove myself and I have to take this opportunity as
a challenge.”
