PC Help

Guys,

Friends of mine asked me to look at their PC. Basically their photos and Itunes have vanished off the hard drive and of course they've not backed them up.

I've tried all manner of things to hunt for them but it looks like they've literally been deleted off his hard drive.

Any ideas?

Hmm, tough one this.

1. Were they deleted by accident and what exactly were they doing on the comp before it was noticed they were gone?

2. Was the computer 'system restored' prior to them noticing their stuff had gone AWOL?

3. The folders properties where they were being stored could have changed and become hidden. Unlikely but possible.

Try a file search on all files and sub folders using just the .jpeg file extension.

If you still have no luck in locating them I'm afraid it could well mean they are gone for good unless they are prepared to pay to have the hard drive looked at professionally because every deleted file leaves a residual footprint which might make them recoverable.

Paul when I screwed up my laptop and lost everything I did this file restore thingy (forgot the name of the program) and I recovered everything, I'll try and find the name.

You may be able to restore some of the files using a program such as Glary Utilities, if they have been deleted accidentally.

If you download the freeware version, under the Privacy & Security tab there is File Undelete bit.

It's helped me out a couple of times when I've emptied my recycle bin when I shouldn't have :).

Looks like a good utility. I shall add it to my tools.

1) Doubtful. They have two young kids but they're carefully watched when the use a PC.

2) Nope.

Tried a search as you said. The folders are there but the files themselves have vanished.
