I was thinking the same thing, can the players hack it!It seems to me that everytime we get a chance to go top etc we blow it!Are some of these players incapable of accepting the pressure that goes with a promotion challenge,We blown 2 or 3 opportunities now ,how many more are we going to get.I realise theres still a long way to go in the season, but the loss to Torquay followed a pattern. The team failed to play to the style PB has had them playing. What are your thoughts, it showed we really need another Striker.Really hard for me to put in words how i feel, its not about a bad performance because they are always going to come baout, its about when these bad performances do come about, seem to come at the wrong time all the time.

What's interesting is the last time PB publicly questioned his players, many (most?) of us questioned the wisdom of doing it at the time and speculated on the potential for losing the dressing room. Well, with the benefit of hindsight, it seemed to work wonders last time. It might not be straight out of the Idiots Guide to Man-Management but, for this high-profile manager and this up-and-coming group of players, it seems spot on. Difficult to argue with the shots he's calling, either back then or right now.

I don't think it's they "Can't Hack It". We've been on a good run lately and to be honest we managed to get some results when it looked like we wouldn't or shouldn't have. I am a bit amazed that PB has gone public with this but his previous "Words of Wisdom" seemed to have worked.

There are going to be games where you play a team off of the park and lose and those where you play rubbish and win. We've had a hiccup over the past two league games but I'm sure with most of the squad back fighting for spots in the team we'll pick up again. It'a a busy period coming up so I hope the team make the most of it.

Can I ask how many games you have seen this season to come to this opinion?

Westy you know darn well i only have what people say on here to go by , its quite apparent to most that living in Melbourne its pretty hard to go and watch SUFC, believe me i would dearly love to,i asked the question on what you people think, because we were playing well after a bad spell and worked our way up defeating the supposedly top sides to get there, but in the past two league outingsagainst lower opposition ,when we had the opportunity to go top we played badly,in between we play the team top of the table at their ground in the cup and we play them off the park,i just wondered ,do SUFC lack that type of leadership that when things go bad ,he steps up not with his words but his deeds and does something inspirational that lifts the rest of the team. For example if you follow the cricket, AUSSIES were going badly in the first test first innings then Brad Haddin came to the crease and played what to me was the defining innings at the moment in all the tests played so far, he changed the game and raised the whole of the Australian team, it was a match and Ashes defining moment, a lot like Bell did for England in the recent Ashes tests in England.I wasnt being negative toward the players in the SUFC squad ,at least i hope i wasnt, i just wondered if they have the bottle to be able to play well when the moment arrives.

There have been more than a few games where we started well, sometimes got a lead and then shrunk back and gone negative so that we are hanging on instead of carrying on moving forward and adding goals. I have seen and heard firstly PS and now PB trying to get the players to be positive BUT the message doesn't always appear to be heeded. We need a leader on the field with the ability to make the players listen and act:And if they don't use the subs and also drop the offenders.

They seemed to manage in the last 6 or 7 games fine.

We cant win every game we play.

Saturday was as disappointment, but we were the inform team and on an excellent run. No need to start panicking after one bad game.

What a massive over exageration this has been since Saturday. Yes, it was a disappointing defeat, but these things will happen in away games.

I would take the results of the last 8 matches, for the next 8, and the 8 after that and so on...

Now it's time to go on another run. Getting on the players backs after 1 bad day is crazy, and if the reports I have head about 1 guy are true from Saturday, I would like to club to locate him and have him banned from all future Southend matches - we don't need that sort of toxic fan.

Surprised Brown went for them as forcefully after the Torquay game - yes we had a bad day, but overall things have been pretty good. He'll be doing the half time team talk on the pitch next.

What pattern? We won 6 and drew 1 of our last 7 games, before Torquay. Then lost. I agree with Westy, you can't have gone to many games this season to think that...:nope:

I agree that one defeat following a good run should not cause fans to complain too bitterly. It is however worth noting that Torquay are the bottom club in the division, with only 15 points before Saturday's game, and that they outplayed us almost throughout the match....... so I have some sympathy with Phil Brown's frustration at our performance.

From watching the majority of the games this season I can tell you it's a very tight league and not much difference between many of the teams. If anyone has an off day there's a very good chance they will get beat.

Northampton beat Fleetwood a few weeks ago when they were bottom.

We have lost one game after an excellent run.

If anything I would put that display (didn't go btw) down to over confidence as a guess. The players probably thought they could just turn up not putting the same effort in as previous games.

Hopefully we will respond Friday night.

Unless Buffalowolf has a tardis he would be doing incredibly well to attend any games all the way from Melbourne. That's in Australia by the way, like he said in his last post!

It wasnt panic or anything like that ,that i wrote this, it was from reading all your threads on each game ,I realise there are going to be bad games, and im not over reacting, but to read that went against the way PB has been trying to get them to play and also its not so much away games ,i think their away record is better than their home record in the past 2 seasons, albeit one of them was under JS.I just have that feeling that there is one important ingredient missing from this team and PB spoke about it last week when he said the team needed to be Ruthless against Torquay.
