Paynter...

EastStandBlue

Life President
..Why was he not sent off? I thought the standard of refereeing was supposed to improve as you went up the leagues, but Mr. Boyeson was dire and sincerely without a clue.... I personally loved his take on timewasting players, just stop and chat with them for 2 minutes, a really just punishment...

To begin with, i'm sure he thought we were playing Rugby... handballs gallore on the count of both sides. but my biggest gripe lands with Paynters head-lock-and-throw move on Wilson... Absolutely disgraceful...

Is that the one where their player got booked, but they got the freekick?

He had signalled for the obstruction against us before Paynter decided to wrestle Che to the ground. Of course if he had use the flat of his hand rather than a armlock around the neck he would have been red carded.

Ah, it was hard to see from the West Stand...looked like a pretty bizarre explanation...thanks for explaining

I had a cracking view of it from where i was sat and can fully understand how they got the free kick.

BUT

It was surely a definite red. It was retaliation, it was deliberate and he raised his hand to Che's face.

For anyone who couldn't see, Paynter, in mid-air, grabbed Che's head with both hands and slung him to the floor. If that's not a red card, what did he have to do? Spit on him too? Cos he didn't look a million miles away from going to do that too!

Exactly. Whats the ref' going to put in his report? Well he chucked the player to the ground with both hands, but thought it best to give him a yellow card. Er.

To be fair Billy isn;t a malicious player so maybe wasn't as bad as first seen.

Sloblock. He was a ten ton thug all afternoon, with the touch of a rapist being over-compensated for by his eagerness to injure opponents.

He almost decapitated Darryl in the second half well before his other red card offence against Che.

A disgrace to his profession, both in terms of ability and attitude.

A bit harsh that. My my my- have the grapes turned a tad sour in Southend?

i though league one would have brought decent refs to the hall, but obv. i was mistaken

HA HA!!!! No chance! There are some terrible refs in this division. Quite ironic that Billy Paynter DID get sent off on the opening day of last season for 2 bookings. The official reason for the 2nd booking being- CELEBRATING FOR TOO LONG!!!!

WTF?

Isnt a malicious player? From the way he reacted when Wilson got up i'd say he's rather experienced in brawls... And i'd have to agree with Spiff... Chunky was throwing his weight around for the full 115 minutes (Yes, thats 90 minutes + the 10 it took Lowndes to leave the pitch, and the extra 15 every other vale player took to do simple tasks) and looked like a Thug, was appalled by the way he played today... especially after hearing good things about the player...

you always find that the higher the division you go the more physical the sides get

Have to agree with you entirely there. I sat in south upper and my perspective of the incidents of time-wasting, man-handling and numerous handballs were my main criticisms when assessing the refs poor display.

what about that incident where the vale player kicked it off for a corner, but a goal kick was given

I had a face on view of the incident as well and it was a disgrace. He was very nearly strangling Che with his arms wrapped round his neck.

That aside though I thought he was exactly the type of player we lack, someone up front with a big physical presence who can play a bit. That's why when balls were going up to their frontline they stuck, yet when we lob it forward it comes straight back.
