He was already a French international and had been previously bought by Marseilles for 11m EUROS, so he was already established.

Not sure a player named in the French 2014/15 Ligue 1 team of the season that was part of France's 2014 World Cup squad (albeit as a bit part player that only played one match) can really be called 'plucked from nowhere'.

It sounds like Marseille have turned his head which is why he wants out, according to him he was transferred because Marseille needed to make some money to abide by Financial Fair Play rules, if that's true he probably still loves the club.

French Ligue 1 v Premier league....no contest as the prem is watched worldwide far more than French football.

Before he signed for Westham he was in the main unheard of outside France...thanks to his performances in the prem he has become far more famous and more sought after.
