Pavarotti Dies.

Luciano Pavarotti died today ......I think he was probably the single most person responsible for turning Opera from an elitist art, to one that the masses loved.

I doubt many will ever forget him singing Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" at the 1990 Italian World Cup.

R.I.P.

Second that John, I've always enjoyed opera, and Pavarotti was one of the best, and as you say bought opera to the masses as never before.

RIP

just one of those iconic people, you think of opera you think of pavarotti. RIP

wow pavarotti died on my birthday

Shakespeare did too.

I was going to mention that, but preferred the blunt finality of my original post.

I'd like to think my Nana also contributed greatly to the richness of the English language. If I was ever staying round her house and said "I'm tired" her refrain would always be - "There's no fence round the bed". Genius.

There must be a psychic cat trying to tell us signs from the future down my road, as yesterday morning there was a pile of cat poo on the mat outside my front door. I now realise this was a portent of Pavarooti's passing as the cat had clearly left a Messon Doormat.

I preferred Aztec Lightning (Mexico '86) and Rendezvous (France 98).

Getting off the track a bit of Pav's demise, but I was always partial to the 1978 Argentina World Cup theme, until I found it is was performed by Andrew Lloyd-Webber (shame it's not his demise being 'mourned' today).

On the subject of themes though nothing beats the simplistic brilliance of the BBC theme to the Tokyo 1964 Olymic Games.
