First XI
Ok just logged onto Blues World to listen to Paul Sturrock thoughts about our game against Chesterfield. I say 'listen' but that is the operative word here. I can hardly hear the interviewer or Paul. Is it just my PC or is everyone else finding the volume very low on this clip?

If anyone can hear his interview what are the key points?

Cheers

Understands the fans frustrations having come from CCC to L2, but asks us to back the players as it can make a difference.

Mohsni not fit for this weekend, Morris will be.

Has viewed the Cheltenham game over again (twice) and thinks that bar the first six minutes we were actually okay.

In 12-18 months he hopes our squad can be in Chesterfield's situation.

What top of the League and in a new ground ?

I spoke to him after the chesterfield game, and I couldn't understand what he said, I was on a train to London, he was going to Plymouth (Home) for a couple of days
(so no transfer activity then) I wished him happy new year , and all the best of luck for the rest of the season ( he muttered we needed it)

Seriously, he actually seemed quite ok, and probably fed up with having to talk to disgruntled fans. I did say it was a stonking free kick tho!

OK let us study the past support from the fans for the players and bring that forward to the current squad. I agree that players should not be abused whilst playing or when they may be subbed during a game. I agree that the fans should be behind the players whilst the game is in progress. What do we expect in return. I for one expect the players to applaud the crowd when the players come out. On Saturday only Barker applauded the crowd when he was running into position. That is on the back of 2 away wins after which the players should be on a high. At the conclusion of the game only Grant really applauded the crowd although Herd did make an effort. What I am getting at is there does not appear to be any affinity between the crowd and the players and to make that happen it must be give and take on both sides. So Mr Sturrock we will encourage the players but in return we expect the players to applaud the crowd before and after the game. This will at least give the impression that we are in this together. I have left it until now to mention that after every game Tilly and Brush always applauded the crowd as did most of their players. I am not going to harp on about Tilly but will go on about crowd appreciation from the players and may I add the manager. Regarding any interviews, I think we all have problems understanding Mr Sturrock who has been nicknamed Darth Vadar by some. If this is due to his illness then I apologise, but can only be honest.

So on Saturday let us all get behind the team and see if the players play their part.

Up The Blues

Come on you Shrimpers.

After the poor and abusive recation by certain sections of the crowd on monday im not surprised they dont do a lap of honour. what do you expect from them to walk around and get abused again by the clueless idiots that take upon themselves to abuse them. for what its worth most of the crowd dissapear straight away after the final whistle so there are not many left in he crowd. in my experience at away grounds this season the players have made the effort to applaud the fans, but the point is that away we get behind them and support, reality is at home, as discussed all week we dont. i dont expect them to applaud me everytime they walk onto the pitch and at the end, and if we have been beaten i dont blame them wanting to get off the pitch. i think you will find that in most grounds in the country. i just ask tomrow regardless of how things are going we all try the positive approach and support. i sit in the east yellows and honsetly we do try to get behind the team and be positive. and certainly when blair got subbed and rhys came off he pitch we showed support not abuse. UTB

Another point following this,
People seem to think that these players don't care if they lose, which is not the case at any level. 99% of footballers are in the game to win. In some cases they care as much as us when we lose. It might be a different kind of caring but it still affects their lives.

The worrying disconnect between the fans and the team that PS(and others)have commented on can only get only get worse if we lose again today.

If we lose to the team at the top of the table?

If we lie down and lose by 3 or 4 maybe but either way I just dont think the connection is there.

I'm hoping for a point but a heavy defeat must be a possibility.Even though the team were clearly trying on Monday the crowd didn't get behind the team at all so I'd have to agree with you that there's no connection there.
