Director⭐🦐
Personally I think that Mr Sturrock has done fantastic in saving our club and some of the signings have been excellent considering the circumastances.

However I really do think that he has lost the plot when it comes to team selections and tactics (if there are any apart from hoof!), and I cant remember him playing the same team twice with players in the same positions. I also think that at times this season he has lost the dressing room.

Therefore my proposition is to offer Mr. Sturrock a director of football roll and bring in a new [younger] manager who has played at a higher level for next season.

What do you think?

Can we afford a manager and a Director of Football?

Do we need one at this level of the football pyramid?

I'd argue no to both.

I've edited the thread title as we really don't need 1000 threads titled "Paul Sturrock"

Last Director of Football we had was a waste of time and money. Sturrock is a very well respected man in the game whatever we on here think. I tend to feel that if we don't go up this year then Ron will bid him farewell anyway.

Why on earth would he want to take that job?

Against what we all think, he is a decent club manager, and would most definitely look for a new management position elsewhere if this offer was ever made.

We don't need one anyway, nuff said.

No club appeared to want him before we took him on. Has he done enough at Roots Hall to make him an attractive proposition to prospective employers? Time will tell, but I'd say, not yet.

The reason mr sturrock has not picked the same team is the fact that all the players we have brang in are unfit and six months behind match fitness

Fitness does seem a major factor this season, i've rarely known one for injuries, knocks and walking wounded like this ..

Didn't our fitness and conditioning coach get the bullet in a cost cutting measure in the summer or did i imagine that ??

He seemed to drag Plymouth down in a football Director capacity.

With us I think Steve Thompson and Peter Taylor have done the Job.

Talking of Spud Taylor I'd like to see him return now hes more than experienced. I do think Jobson pulled the rug from under him to a degree when he was here as a rookie manager.

Think he got a better offer.

No thanks.

Think he got offered a job at Charlton.

The day Taylor comes back is the day I stop going. Awful manager IMO.

So many flaws in this argument it's crazy.

Promoted or not Sturrock may decied to walk .But i dont see Ron Martin pushing him out .Who else is stupid enough to want to have Ron telling him how to run the team .No Paul sturrock has done a good job with a team that he has built . Maybe we wont get up this time around but if he lets a few players go ans repaces them with better and .If we get a fit again corr next term then maybe our promotion push will be on again next term . BUT THIS SEASON ISNT OVER YET

Uncle Ron should feel indebted to PS for baling him out after the T&B debacle. But PS has been around long enough to know that sooner or later RM will turn on him if results are below expectation. What we don't know is what timetable has been set.

PS could well pre-empt the situation imho.

Yes Paul sturrock may well jump ship at the end of the season if we dont get promoted .But he said he would like to see a Southend turn around within 3 years .He may even get a touch of home sickness .As Plymouth look like staying up and there intrim manager may not get offered the job stay up or not . Just wonder if the plymouth job is still on his mind .
