Paul Clark

Richard_Cadette

The Realist
Didn't go to tonight's game through work, and baby, commitments, and in the end, I feel very much one of the priviledged who managed to avoid what sounded like yet another defensive shambles undermining a fairly decent start.

Listening to Paul Clarke on the radio, as I have done many times before, it is becoming extremely apparent, at least to me, that his knowledge, understanding and reading of just about everything football related is pretty much second to none.

He obviously still has a passion for this club, and as I say, he pretty much calls just about every situation before they happen - he called tonight's game absolutely spot on!

Given how much of a whole hearted defender he was, and given how much sense he talks about our backline - he was openly critical about what we do during the week in training not being the right things to do - would it not be a good idea for Tilly to get him on board to start coaching our defenders how to defend?

Although it was a long time ago now, he did a superb job for us in a short space of time, and anyone who has as much knowledge and understanding og the game as he does, would surely be an asset to our club, especially in the defensive area?

It is obvious to everyone that our defence, or rather lack of it in terms of organisation, marking, communication, you name it, is undermining anything that is any good about our team, and there is not a cat in hells chance that we can possibly be successful whilst that continues.

If Tilly is not capable of sorting that area out, which I think most people would agree on the face of it, he isn't, then why not get someone in who knows what they're talking about and who might be able to rectify our problems?

It's an interesting idea but one I unfortunately can't see happening. What Austin is doing to earn his money is not clear but Tilly has proved to be too stubborn a manager to see him making such a radical change. Remember, he doesn't even seem to think we need a new centre-back...

He was very scathing about Mulgrew too. I think his comment when we'd gone down to ten men was, "Mulgrew might as well push up because he can't defend!!

Sounded awful. Glad I couldn't go tonight!!

I still blame him and Speller for the goal that went in just before HT..

Slating Millwall for 5 minutes previous, then giving it the final kiss of death with the comment "I hope I haven't jinxed it" just as the corner was being taken!..

Oh dear, when will they learn!

I'd go for that. Sack Austin and bring in the Viking!

Hmmm, can he help....?

Big wall tho, and he wouldnt jump over the ball so you could be onto something there....;) :p

To be fair to Alliker, he wasn't commentating - it was Glen Speller!

Good Post mate....I must admit that when listening to him he did seem to make a lot of sense......when he was saying about putting AB up front and his vision and obvious "fish eye" view of the game did make me think...."Geez, I wish you were in the dug out"

I sent a text to BBC Essex ( that didn't get read out ) - Tilson out Clark in.

Agree with everything Richard Cadette says

Well that's not true. He turned around about half an hour into the game and said he couldn't believe how shocking Millwall were and that we were looking on course for an easy victory :thump:

The thing is that was true - or certainly the first part of it. Our play and tactics, not theirs, won them the game.

Tilson won't want Clarky on board, he's frightened Paul might get his job and do it better.

He would do it better, speaks so much sense and has got a bit of passion unlike our bloke who thought we played better in the first half against Hartlepool!

He was also full of praise for how Peter Clarke always plays the easy ball and doesn't just hoof it down the pitch. Errrr????......

Whilst he does make a lot of sense at times he also talks a lot of tosh.

As Kenny says he was saying how Revell wont be used as a target man as Clarke and Barrett never hit it long.

If he cant see Clarke launching 60 yard balls into nowhere every week he cant be that insightful.

If he calls it right every time he would have noticed Millwall having chance after chance in the second half yet still said we deserved to be in front.

i agree with most of the comments above. Paul Clark is a legend and i think should be involved with the club. He does talk sense everytime i listen to him last night included. The things he sees not happening would def be worth mentioning to Tilly surely all the help he can get especially from someone like Clark would be of a benefit.

Would love to see another local lad involved with the blues.

Surely though all this clamour for Paul Clark to return in some sort of coaching/advisory capacity is similar to my point of view (roundly shouted down by the majority on here) that we should maybe have considered a Director of Football to assist with transfers/contacts etc?

Bringing in somebody else, albeit with managerial experience at Southend almost 2 decades ago, has got short-term benefits but surely has also got a number of downsides, the majority of that being it would lessen Tilson's authority. Is this something he would seriously entertain?
