I think it's hard to say on the Man U game. If I recall correctly we were struggling before the game anyway (embaressing defeat to Hull anyone?) and alot of us felt the win would kick start our season. The two games after the Man U game were encouraging draws against Preston and Plymouth (followed by a 3-0 defeat away at Col ewe).
To be fair we can always blame certain games, refereeing decisions etc, but we simply were just not good enough and the win against Man U was an amazing win, and one that will go down in the club's history.
