paul benson

Director⭐🦐
have heard that benson has been looked at by tilly a number of times this season and has impressed! scored 14 goals for the daggers this season and is a very tall, quick stiker, two footed and can head the ball (unlike harrold) anyone think he's worth the 50,000 - 75,000 gamble or should we stick with tried and tested?

Tilly must of known what he was all about when we had him on trial, he scored a few goals in the reserve's but obviously was not good enough for league 1 at the time so can't see Tilly wanting him in the championship.

Saying that he would definatly do a job in league 2 as is better than Broughton, Dudfield, bramble and the like.

Please Remember Paynter scored bucketfulls at league 2. So don't read too much into goals scored at lower leagues.

Freddy came from lower leagues he scored alot - although not many knew we were linked with him

Tilly did not think Benson was not good enough, he just felt hehad not seen enough of him so he asked him to come back pre season for further trials. Daggers offererd a contract so he took that .

No he didn't, he scored his goals in league one, the division we are going to be in next season.

That is the same division that Billy Sharp has scored his goals in, and one higher than Junior Agogo - both targets who people on here were/are desperate for us to break the bank for.

I think Benson would be a good signing! Look at Kightly we knocked him back he went down to Grays worked his nuts off and now is doing well for Wolves and signing on a permanent! We need someone to score goals maybe Benson is the man??

To be fair, Kightly's game is entirely about trickery and pace and he only really needed to toughen up to improve. The only way that was going to happen was to get him out of his comfort zone at SUFC.

Benson, on the other hand, is massive and I'm in no doubt that this will get him a lot of goals lower down the leagues. That said, I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Kightly, though, is the exception rather than the rule

Painter didnt score bucket loads of goals for anyone....where did you get that from lol?

When we was in League 2 and he was at port vale he was always 1 goal behind eastwood in the goal scoring charts so I'd say that was a bucketfull!

Paynter's goalscoring record including cup games:

2002/03 - League One - 5 goals

2003/04 - League One - 14 goals

2004/05 - League One - 13 goals

2005/06 - League One - 2 goals
2005/06 - Championship - 3 goals

Not bad really.

As for Benson, having seen him play a few times on my visits to the Daggers, I very much doubt we'd look at him now we're above League Two to be totally honest.
