As you all know I rate Paterson and am very disappointed that he has not been give a run of games to get goals for us.

Getting away from Southend is probably the best for the lad, loads of football and a few more goals will do him the world of good.

He's got another year of his contract left, wonder if he'll come back to us?

Not if Luggy is still here,he won't!! For whatever reason he doesn't rate him as a striker so it's best for everyone that he moves on.

I think the problem with Paterson to Sturrock is that he doesn't have the upper body strength that PS likes his strikers to have. If he had some kind of pace then I'm sure he'd still be here, but without strength and without pace, he obviously didn't figure in our plans. It's a shame, as I think with some nurturing he could be a useful player, but he's in desperate need of a bulk up if he's to have a successful career.

This is all about money and I know this for fact.

I won't state who told me as he attends Board Meetings though Beefy is aware of who this is just to verify that I am not talking boll**ks - though I am not overly bothered if you believe it or not.

Paterson is our highest paid player - fact.

Stockport are paying 25% of his salary with us liable, though not necessarily paying, the balance.

If Pato was brought in on a contract bigger than Grant's then that is a totally and utterly obsurd thing to do.

I don't have any inside info but can well believe Pato was a high earner given the period in which he joined and as he came highly rated, and can well believe that's a major factor in off-loading him. However in our state i'd be amazed if we're going to be picking up 75% of his salary for the rest of the season! Surely if thats the case we'd be better off keeping him as another option up top. Also I'd be shocked if he was on more than Grant?

He was bought in as the player to replace Barnard, so I can see that we would have paid decent wages for him, despite our financial problems. If its true it's a bad move from the club and Pato should be sold as soon as possible

and that in a nutshell is the root of all our problems if true. You make someone like Paterson out highest earner when he has done nothing in his career to warrant it no one we are in a finacial mess. Who was manager when this was sanctioned? However I think he'll do quite well in the Conference.
BTW I understand Moussa was on £65,00 a year. Sheer madness.

In his 10 League appearances under Sturrock, he has been allowed an average of just under 32 minutes on the pitch per game. Fair crack of the whip? I'd say not.

Agreed but IF the wages are true then I have no problem with this. Also the other simple equation is Pato > Crawford but < player we need to strengthen the squad. PS indicated last night we need to strengthen but needs to be greater than what we have (if he can score a dolly from 8 yards that test is passed) and needs to be someone that won't adversely affect the team spirit. Makes me think a subliminal message in there about his relationship with Pato and I'm comfortable with the fact that though he recognises, as we do, the urgent need for fresh legs it needs to be the right man or men.

Sturrock sees him in training aswell. We're all entitled to an opinion and mine is Paterson just doesn't have the strength and presence for Sturrock's liking and I very much doubt he'll be wearing a Southend shirt again.

Extremely disappointed with this.

The SZ clique will be happy though.

Not given a run of games that he deserved - 6 starts 4 goals for us and 5 starts 2 goals for Stockport = pretty good for a young useless, lightweight, slow striker.
