Pal

steveo

mine to stay the same please
Ive got an Optoma HD65 projector which apparently supports PAL.

Running through a separate splitter, we have Sky, Wii, DVD and XBox. To make these work with a decent image we had to change the settings to PAL50.

My son just bought COD MW2 which apparently only works with PAL60, which basically means it wont run through the projector. He also recent got FIFA10 which works fine.

Does anyone know anything about PAL? Will PAL 60 replace PAL50 making the new projector obsolete? Cant imagine a fairly new HD Model wont play new games

Any ideas?

No simple answer to this really. I think it's something you'll have to research on the internet.

PAL is the standard format for most of Europe, and runs at 50Hz (50 frames per second when it comes to picture, hence the PAL 50). NTSC is the standard format for North America, which runs at 60Hz (60 fps). PAL 60 won't replace PAL 50, as PAL will be replaced by DVB when the digital switchover happens anyway. PAL 60 is simply just a hybrid of NTSC and PAL, giving 60 fps in a PAL format for Europe.

As for why it won't play, there could be a number of reasons. PAL 60, with a higher framerate, will give a sharper picture, so it would be odd if any up-to-date HD system, whether a TV or projector, didn't support the format. I know that you can switch between PAL 50 and PAL 60 on the xBox if you have a PAL 60 game - maybe that would do the trick? he projector should really be able to display 50 and 60.

Thanks for that. You can switch the xbox to PAL60 but then the picture isnt in colour. Maybe the splitter wont support PAL60. Ill have to do some more research.

If you have one or can get your hands on one, unplug everything and the splitter and hook the XBox up to the projector using just the XBox lead with no splitter involved. If PAL 60 then works, then you know it's your splitter.
