Otis Gibson names as new WINDIES head coach

I don't think Gibson did that amazing a job as England bowling coach. Obviously he had limited talent to work with, and was hamstrung by England often only fielding 3 seamers, but England continued to struggle to take 20 wickets.

For the West Indies though he comes with a couple of distinct advantages. He's in a handy position of being both a West Indian (can't remember what island) and an outsider. That means he can come in with a fresh set of eyes, free from the baggage of having coached an island. As seemingly the only candidate for the job he can name his own price - he can either have used this to drive up his salary or better still to demand complete control over the system. Finally, he has been in a professional international set up for the last year or two now, and he can bring that experience to the West Indies, whose organisation has been a shambles.

I wish him well. World cricket is better with a strong West Indies.

I've just seen that, I think he's from Barbados and played a few tests & ODI's in the 90's. I think he did a reasonable job with what he had to work with in the England job. Good luck to him, I wonder now if England will try to get Allan Donald again.

Also I totally agree about world cricket needing a strong (or at worst competitive) WIndies team.
