ORM has a brand new toy - iPhone 3G

Still Loves Emma Bunton. Roy McDonough is God!
Picked up from Lakeside this afternoon - doesn't look too shabby at all - still a few things to work out such as texting groups rather than individuals and I still haven't accessed the Zone through the web yet but I seem to have worked out contacts, synching and email accounts.

Anyone else got one ? What are your thoughts on the phone and have you found any bugs or any decent forums for tips etc ?

Not overly impressed with the keyboard but I'm sure I'll get used to it

A friend of mine has just got one. He's had it a week and reckons that if he hadn't already got one, he wouldn't have bothered. He doesn't reckon it's all that good, and the battery life is awful. The only way to make the battery last is to turn off the 3G, which kind of defeats the object of the phone!

All hype had both versions still ****e :( each to their own thought mate

I love it.
Texting groups: Do you mean making a group or sending a text to multiple recipients? If its the latter just type a bit of the first name you want and the address book will give you a list. Tap that one then do the same for as many people as you want.

You get used to the keyboard quite quickly. The spelling correction thing is really good so just type your message and dont look at the result till you have finished. You will be surprised how few typos there are at the end.

Couple of other bits: Hit space twice to add a full stop and start new sentence. Taking pictures drains the battery so if you are out for a long daygo easy on the pics. Went to Newmarket yesterday and mine expired by about 5pm.

If you hold the round button down and hit the off button once, it takes a screenshot, not sure what use it is but it does.

If you need to correct any typing, press the screen at the right place with your finger and it sort of magnifies that bit and you can move around quite easily.

The way Apple advertise it, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Apple invented the 3G phone...in much the same way that the you could easily think they invented the mp3 player as well.

I've had 3G on my Nokia n95 for nearly a year now, I prefer it to the Iphone because it actually has trusty keypad rather than this stupid touch screen gubbins.

Had mine for 2 weeks now and got mixed feelings.

I didn't think it was actually a very good phone at first. Its a bit muffled hearing people, you can't really text walking along like on your old mobile and some simple options (forwarding texts, sending pictures etc) are all a bit complicated or non-existent. Also battery life varies between 1 day and 1/2 depending on what you do.

But when I turned down the screen brightness, put the ipod to sleep when using it and just got into the habit of turning on 3G when I needed it, I started getting 3 days out of it. And even with 20% life left in the cell, it'll do a day or so (if you avoid using lots of video).

As for the texting, I'm getting the hang of it now and sometimes its great due to the clever spellchecker. And using the hands free earphones improves making calls no end.

Where the iphone comes into its own for me is having a mac at home. Its syncs all my addresses, emails, diary dates, bookmarks, music, etc, allows me to watch films at a decent size on the go and has some great little games for free download (Cube runner and Labyrinth being 2). Maps are awesome too...

No idea how it compares to other 3G units, but after 2 weeks I'm starting to like it a whole lot more. Turning your phone on its side also gets the keyboard up loads bigger when using Safari (something I desperately hope they'll add onto the texting function).
Having previously had an old knackered Ericsson, its literally worlds apart. Its far from perfect and all encompassing, but you sacrifice some of the more trickier options I feel for a more intuitive and friendly interface...

think i'll stick to my old samsung thats about 9 years old..it makes phone calls!!! amazing!

Yeah I'd always had that attitude as well. And then, for some unknown reason, I got one of these.

It's a bit out of character for me to spend lots of cash on it, but as I was after a contract phone instead of pay-as-you-go for work, needed a new ipod and owned a mac it actually worked out being a fairly reasonable offer.

But its really not the life changing experience the media columns would have you believe...
