A LEYTON Orient footballer has been accused of helping his brother to mislead an investigation into a schoolboy's murder.
Aiden Palmer, 21, a first-team defender for the O’s, and his brother Daryl, 20, are accused of giving their youngest brother Liam a false alibi when questioned about the murder of a schoolboy in Ponders End on February 15.
The victim, Ofiyke Nmezu, 16, received a lethal blow to the head with a brick during an argument between a group of youths outside a High Street shop.
Mr Nmezu, from Edmonton, died in hospital two weeks later from a fractured skull.
Liam Palmer, 18, is charged with the teenager's murder and pleaded not-guilty at a hearing in June. On Friday he appeared at the Old Bailey with his two older brothers.
It is alleged that the two older brothers, who both pleaded not-guilty to perverting the course of justice, helped their sibling by falsely stating he was at home in Cutlers Green between 3pm and 9pm on the day of the murder.
A trial date for all three brothers has been set for the Old Bailey on November 3. Liam Palmer was remanded in custody. Aiden and Daryl Palmer were released on conditional bail.
Left back Aiden Palmer continues to play for the League One club and started in the defeat to Stockport County on Saturday.
