I think he must be registered by noon today to be eligible for the cup tomorrow. Let's hope the fax is working today and that we can afford to put some paper in it! Time is very short.

There may be more complications as it's a permanent transfer and not a simple loan extension - the salary cap could mean we have to shift one out before getting one in, which will involve severance negotiations etc. Looking at the clock, getting the deal done in time for the cup seems unlikely.

That said, you would have thought if this was likely to be a problem we would have known in advance. Now, SUFC, I'm off for my lunch now and when I return, I will be disappointed if I don't find a picture of a Lairdy on the official site, sporting a toothless grin as his pen hovers over a piece of paper.

I'm not saying he has signed, of course. But theoretically, they should be training at the moment. So if they want a nice posed pic on the official site, it will have to wait until the afternoon, assuming the deal was done early on today.

Fans want information immediately these days but football clubs are busy places in January and there's probably more important stuff going on today, with a game tomorrow, than telling the fans about Lairdy.

Or on the other hand, we could be under embargo and one of our promotion rivals could pinch him from under our noses. You just never know with this club.

Scriven doesn't work here anymore.

Yeah, he does actually. When he's not at QPR, if we have a game then he does the photos on his company's behalf. He was here for the Gills game, saw him and Barrett exchanging a few friendly words on the pitch after the traditional captains, officials and mascots photo.
