Coach
So it rears its ugly head again after the despicable actions of frog nibbling, baguette munching, onion jangling football 'player' Henry.

Much debate in the household on this issue, have a niggling feeling that this may become the topic of the week.

Opinions?

What he said.

Ok, but you know what i'm getting at. With such technology you would ahve been able to identify the infringment. Perhaps goal line was the wrong phrase, replay technology? Camera Technology? Pitchside Technology? Camera officials? Technology Technology?

i think there should be some kind of replay system in place so that video technology can be used.. as they do with NFL/Tennis etc

Interesting thing on 5-Live about this...how low down the football pyramid do you take it? It may not be all over the world, but if a Conference side was dumped out of a lucrative match by a dodgy handball, it would still be as galling as a World Cup qualifier to the supporters of that club.

And expecting a team like AFC Wimbledon to install huge video screens and video cameras is plain nuts.

but it's the same with any other sport that has video technology. it's never gonna make it down to the conference, but that shouldn't limit what would be very simple to implement in the Prem, WC, Champs League etc.

But I couldn't give a toss about the Prem or Champions League. However if some b*stard MK Donkeys player did a Henry on Friday night I'd be incensed.

i agree with MK

What if Man U were away to a conference side in a cup. The Man U players would expect the team to have the technology no?

but more people would be incensed if it happened in a WC qualifier or a Champ League game, than if it happened against MK on friday. so I'd be happy for the television coverage that is already set up to be used in those instances. and if we got to the playoffs or LDV final then again i think it'd be right that we had use of the system. I don't think how more officials would work.. and again it wouldn't filter down just because we have a shortage of quality officials anyway.

Goal line technology, i.e. the ability to determine whether or not the ball has fully crossed the line, has been ready to roll out for a number of years now, FIFA just do not like the idea of anything bringing the referee's ability into question.

For me, I'm not entirely sure just how much video technology in football would work. Goal line technology, fine. A sensor in the ball that informs the fourth official when it has fully crossed the line, followed by the fourth official relaying the information to the referee would not delay the game at all. But every box-related decision? No thanks, you'd never hear the end of it.

It's worth noting that, when a questioning system was trialled in Cricket when the Windies visited, both teams said it caused needless confusion and it didn't really work...
