Only one person to blame for not winning today....

Angell Delight

Life President
....and its the 1st time I've ever criticised him on here as he's been fantastic but Tilly cost us 2pts today, no question.

Answer me this - what other manager you know of would while managing a side with a 38-year-old forward in goal down to ten men and playing one up front for 55mins keep 4 at the back for the rest of the game? For me the substitutions were laughable, Gower's one in particular. Tilson and Brush should have been braver and made the changes at half-time and sacrificed a defender, we had redundant defenders at times during the 2nd half that completely negated our man advantage. All Tilly proved today was that he still has an awful lot to learn as a manager which OK you'd expect after only 2 years in the job but the decision he DIDN'T make at any point during the game was for me an absolute stonewall "no-brainer."

Very true. Some will say it's hard to critiscise them with what they've achieved but some of the decisions in recent weeks have been terrible. Right up there with that decision for me was the choice of bringing Lawson on for JCR and putting Gray on the wing. What in the hell was that about when you've got a ready made replacement in Mitchell on the bench!?

As I was the slightly chilly looking mug presenting Gutts with his award, I was lucky enough to sit in the Directors area with 3 ex pros. Paul Allen (former West Ham & Spurs), Scott Fitzgerald (ex Millwall and Col******r centre half) who was there watching us for Brentford, and Dean Austin who was scouting a couple of players for Reading. All 3 were gobsmacked at our approach to it like us fans. Paul Allen especially couldn't believe we left 4 at the back. It was terrible, really terrible. Why in the hell did nobody just have a crack whenever the got within 30 yards of the goal?

completely agree Angell Delight as the great philosopher said "he who dares wins"

Sorry, but the person who cost us the game today was Eastwood. I have honestly not said this about a Southend player for years, but his effort today was a disgrace. There is no doubt he has the talent, but without the application it will be wasted. Today he was a total liability - even when he could be bothered to get the ball he invariably gave it away. Time for a massive kick up the a**e me thinks.

he hardly got a kick as far as I can remember - he did have a chance just before half time - was that a save by Windass when he looked as though he had gone round him

It was actually a blatant push by Windass once Freddy had got round him. Colin Todd found it very amusing that he got away with it. If he'd have given a penalty then Windass should've been sent off as well which sort of shows that the ref bottled it.

So if we played three at the back and they'd scored from a break-away you'd be saying "Why did we only have three at the back"?

Man walks into a pub on a Monday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. People listen for a while.

Man walks into a pub on a Tuesday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. People listen for a moment.

Man walks into a pub on a Wednesday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. People notice him and then carry on what they were doing.

Man walks into a pub on a Thursday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. Someone tells him to shut-up.

Man walks into a pub on a Friday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. More people tell him to shut-up.

Man walks into a pub on a Saturday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. Everyone tells him to shut-up.

Man walks into a pub on a Sunday. Spouts sh!t for an hour. I think you'll be getting the point by now.

This has gone on for a long period of time. Occasionally - and so occassionally it becomes an occasion in itself - our dearest Wiggy might put forward an argument that isn't simply "so and so is sh!t". Were Wiggy to show respect for others, he might be entitled to receiving some in return. Were it to listen to argument and present some for in return, then perhaps it might be due a little time.

For many, Wiggy has long since been way past the point of being taken seriously.

Sums it up perfectly. If I only came on this board to be negative and slag off the players and the management (with the exception of Flavs eh wiggy?

) I wouldn't expect anyone to take any notice whatsoever of my comments yesterday - the difference is unlike wiggy I'm objective and whilst if there is something I really don't agree with and want to get off my chest I'll do that, on the other hand I do readily acknowledge and praise the management if I see what they're doing is good for the club or in the case of players if they're playing well or at the very least giving it 100% every time they pull on a Southend shirt which at the end of the day is all we can ask for. As statski said to me and Draft yesterday at the game if we lose a game but play well and most importantly give it everything for the club we the fans should acknowledge and accept that despite our disappointment with the result. If you looked back on this board the amount of support I've given Tilson and Brush on here regarding the fantastic job they've done at this football club (and are still doing) has been significant to say the least, however I simply can't lend my support to anything they did yesterday, it was a total farce and a throwback to the days of Wignall, Newman and (dare I say it) Alvin Martin. I can only hope this was a one-off and that Tilly will realise his mistake and learn from it, given his impressive track record so far I'm pretty confident this will be the case.

And in response to Andy_S who said what a joke it was bringing Lawson on for JCR and pushing Gray out wide I absolutely agree 100%. And when you say why didn't we have a crack whenever we got within 30 yards of their goal there was one player (and only one) who did and that was Gower and we all know what happened there

Think about it, we're playing 10 men with a 38-year-old forward in goal who played one man up top for 55mins. As a manager what would you do? Come on be honest. What would ANY other side have done under the circumstances against a side below them in the table at home handicapped by that situation? Three centre-backs would have been more than capable of dealing with Cadamarteri, particularly as their wide players were sacrificed quite early by Todd for more defensive options. Sticking with a back 4 took away our man advantage and made it fairly comfortable for Bradford to keep us out, I wouldn't even have said it would have been a "brave" decision by Tilly/Brush to change to a more attacking formation merely an obviously sensible one as the risk factor was minimal to say the least. The management cost us a (probable) 2pts yesterday and they'll know that today when they look back on the game.
