Online Backup....

Jam_Man

Life President
Im trying to find somewhere to backup my 250gb of photos, currently stored in triplicate on 3 external HDD however all in one place.

Virgin Media do their own one, V Stuff, but using it today its totally useless and at this rate will take 10 months to upload the lot.

Anyone got any recommendations ? Its for personal use so needs to priced accordingly.

Personally I wouldn't touch on line back up with anything personal of mine, even photo's. Having a third party responsible for the security of my data to me is unthinkable. Maplins are currently, or were a week ago, doing a 500 gig portable hard drive for £69.00 and a 1T for £89.00. Far far better to back them up collectively on to two, possible three, seperate storage media, ie data DVD, portable hard drive.

Im already backing up data to 3 seperate hard disks, but all it takes is one burglary or fire and instantly everything is gone.

I need an offsite solution, now that may well just mean taking one hard disk around my Dads if I cant find an online solution.

As to security, if someone was to gain access to my photos I wouldnt care particularly, theres nothing untoward there :)

I may well resort to something like that, but using an online facility would negate the need to manually move a disk from one place to another.

I use online backups at work and they work well, but for personal use its hard to find something decent.

Carbonite is mean to be ok, but doesnt support backing up external drives, the virgin media V Stuff system is useless, managed to back up less than a gig since yesterday.
