I'd be far more interested in how he performed not the fact he got on the scoresheet - especially since the goal was apparently a goalkeeping HOWLER when Kuipers dropped his header into his own net!![b said:Quote[/b] (statski77 @ Sep. 19 2006,21:39)]87th min strike dedicated to good old AD
Probably his first shot on target in a southend shirt
Well done Billy!!
Not very well im afraid. In fact he didnt really score from where i was sitting. His header looked like going across the goal and the keeper, who was running back towards his line, seemed to juggle it in.[b said:Quote[/b] ]I'd be far more interested in how he performed
I agree it looked more like an own goal for me. But I thought his performance was pretty decent all round.[b said:Quote[/b] (steveo1 @ Sep. 19 2006,22:23)]Not very well im afraid. I'm all for giving the bloke a chance but I think a few reserve outings might do his confidence better. He just doesnt seem to offer any threat at all at the moment.
Managed to film hunts goal from south upper so ill put that up tomorrow![b said:Quote[/b] (silentshrimper @ Sep. 19 2006,21:52)]Can some one get the goals on you tube pleaseeeeI wanna see hunts!
Well done us!
Surely thats exactly the role that Eastwood plays? Playing from deep, linking the midfield and the attack.[b said:Quote[/b] (EastStandBlue @ Sep. 19 2006,22:43)]I think people need to get a grasp on what type of player Billy is. He links the midfield to the attack extremely well which is something i thought we lacked last season.
I thought he played alright actually its just the players dont seem to know what hes about yet. His movement was actually very good tonight![b said:Quote[/b] (steveo1 @ Sep. 19 2006,22:23)]Not very well im afraid. In fact he didnt really score from where i was sitting. [b said:Quote[/b] ]And how is dropping a guy to the reserves gonna help his confidence
Erm? Now that's taking things a bit far isn't it, blaming the rest of the team? Come on Mark, be serious. Paynters not that special that the rest of the team aren't good enough for him, so we can't give it the old "Mike Marsh" explanation of "well he's too good". He's been with us for 6 weeks now, training all but a couple of days in that time.[b said:Quote[/b] (maldonblue @ Sep. 19 2006,22:54)]I thought he played alright actually its just the players dont seem to know what hes about yet. Dont get me wrong here im not blaming the players. I just think theres something going wrong somewhere. Billy was looking for the ball over the top on a couple of occasions tonight but the players wernt seeing his movement. Then one time he ran towards Maher to take a short ball to feet and Captain Kev done his trademark 'chip the ball lon into an open space'.[b said:Quote[/b] (Hooly @ Sep. 19 2006,23:18)]Erm? We knew this season was going to be tough & I'm concerned that this far into the season we've got a player then that you think hasn't gelled. We needed to hit the ground running with all 11 players punching their full weight. Paynter's style is to hold the ball & slow the game down, the rest of the team are a free flowing passing bunch.
The goal was right in front of me and from my South Upper view Kuipers juggled it as one of his defenders was about to take a swing at the ball and definitely threw it in his own net.
As for Paynter. I don't think that for him he had a bad game, as I seriously don't think he's got much more to give than we saw tonight. But I as I don't think he's what we need as a partner for Fredy I don't really see that as too much of a plus.
Also could someone talk me through the free header at the end of the 1st half. Again, just my personal opinion, I'd expect a £200k championship striker to have buried that.
I'm sure Paynter gave his all, ran his Tilly socks off & probably played nearly at his limit. So credit to him for that.
