Question OFSTED in today...

We've got OFSTED in today for a 1 day condensed inspection. Absolutely horrifc.... came into my bottom set Y10 GCSE class who are horrific on the best of days! Stressed me out far more than I thought it would, even though it is not like the old days of a full debrief and assesment of individual lessons. I felt physically sick and my head spinning.... Thought a good place of refuge would be here ;)

Anyone else have such rigid and thorough inspections at work? Who knows how they can work out how good I am or the school is in a day!?! ;)

We have audits which a basically paper trails. I treat them with the contempt they deserve.

I could deal with paper trails a bit better - well infact a lot of teaching is that these days! I'm sure there were meetings with the school data manager etc. I kept thinking to myself today that ago-old phrase about working with children and animals....

They were asked to behave today, but as usual, I had to break up a riot on the Y8 playground before school, a massive brawl at break and another fight at the end of lunch - probablly more than there has been all year!!

Reminds me when we get a visit by one of the "big cheeses" and the offices and workshops are tidied and cleaned within an inch of their lives.

They live in such an ivory tower bubble they've got no idea!

The FSA conduct "Arrow" visits which could result in our licence being suspended.
Generally cause a bit of panic

I know lots about Ofsted visits, been through several in various settings I've worked, and had one only 3 weeks after taking over as Chair of Govs in my school! If it's any consolation, emphasis is less on the teaching now and more on how results are improving - or not, as the case may be!

Hope it went ok!

Wonder how much notice they gave you before they came? I had an NQT observation today and passed (woohoo), even though I had to give the noisy kid (Year 10's this was with) a wordsearch cos he loves them.

We think were gonna get one before the end of term. Maths and Citizenship (point of this course is?) had one the last 3 days of the summer term, and were convinced my dept are gonna have one in the last day of term, knowing our luck!
