NY Red Bull

Benji91

American Idol
The last 2 weekends ive headed out to the swamplands of NJ to watch the 1st 2 games in the new Red Bull Arena. Now for some reason the "official" attendance for the game is the number of tickets they sell rather than who actually turns up - so for a half empty (or half full) stadium that holds 25,000 the "attendance" was 24,500.
Anyway - the noise even half full was pretty good and surprising for a football game out there - and gave me some hope that if we ever get to Fossetts Farm then the atmosphere wont completely disappear. The noise is helped by 1. the roof, but more importantly 2. the floor. The upper tier has aluminium floor (A-loo-minum) so when a few people start stamping their feet a huge rumble goes up.
That said the standard of football is shocking - for some reasons the defenders touch the ball more than any other player and forward play is non existant.

I see according to the seating chart, a section behind the goal is allocated to the Red Bulls Supporters section the web site states 'Fans who sit in these sections typically stand, sing, chant, and enthusiastically and loudly support the Red Bulls throughout the game.' Would it not be brilliant to see a statement like that from an English club.

Mind you the list of prohibited items is quite strict.

Never seen anyone bring a broom along to a football match, maybe thats an American thing?

Brooms are most often seen at baseball games since teams face each other for 3 or 4 game series at a time. Some fans bring brooms to the final game of the series if their team has won every game to that point because the team will then be going for the series sweep. In other sports it will occasionally be brought to postseason series.

Good to see your pronunciation is improving, now you just need to drop the last i in the word and you'll be all set.

And I hope you can get used to American style soccer. It's pretty much just a continental style done to the nth degree.

I am disgusted that this thread has been described as 'football'. what was the standard like?

Well i was really only paying attention to how NY were playing, but its tough to watch.
What happened 9 times out of 10 was the keeper (who is a combination of Mel Capleton and Mark Prudhoe) would roll the ball out to the full back who would pick it up on the edge of the box. He would look up and get scared and pass it to the CB. He would then walk forward with it and in his mind he turned into an american version of Zidane and see a 40 yard passing oppurtunity open up.
In reality he launched the ball 25 yards to a midfielder who was stood still and the opposition took the ball, before turning around and giving it to there own defenders to do something.

The midfielders are basically there to break up play, not create, and the forwards seem to have no idea where the ball is going next so making a decent run is a waste of effort.

To be fair the fans try their best to get into the game - but its missing the chants that the english game has.... i cant listen to another "lets go red bull".

calling the referee a jerk off instead of a ****** is tough as well. American is a stupid language
