Nugent £6m? Chopra £5m? Freddy £2M?

:guns: In light of Nugent to Portsmouth and Chopra to Sunderland it just made me think about how much Wolves had to pay for Eastwood. Neither Nugent or Chopra really appeared to add a great deal more to Cardiff or Preston respectively compared to Freddy on a good day. Does anybody know how long each of them had left on their contracts?

Longer then Eastwoods, and There both were much more proven at championship level then Eastwood.

It doesn't matter anyways.....We have Macca D and Paynter now :)

It doesn't belong in this fourm, but I'm torn as to where to move it.

Ex-Shrimpers? It certainly involves that freddy bloke who once played for us.

Al-Leagues? It concerns to players who never played for us and have been transferred to clubs that aren't us.

Hhhhhmmmm?

Nugent has had 2 seasons to Freds 1 season and scored 18 and 15 respectively. Yes thats more proven than Fred but hardly setting the division alight was he ? I'd take Chopra anyday ahead of Nugent. Nugent is over rated IMO. Not worth £6m if Fred was worth £2m (or was it really £1.5m ?)Didnt impress me at all against us last season and we hardly had the best of defences. Good luck Pompey. Well done Sunderland.

Notice how they have been bought by Premiership clubs, and only Championship clubs came in for Freddy.

If we take our Southend biased sunglasses off for a minute you have to ask if we maybe rate Freddy more than the rest of the football world...

Nugent - loads of goals at Championship level and an English international
(reading between the lines - Kamara - loads of goals this season and an international but probably a bit overpriced)
Chopra - would have been top scorer this season were it not for injuries

By the by, there's a link on wikipedia to the BBC story of him moving to us with the following quote:

"Tilson was keen to strengthen his front line after losing Lawrie Dudfield and Drewe Broughton to injury. "

:hilarious:

What do you think i am going to say - ?

i am glad the business is all over and it sure is time to move on - but yeah i do think RM in particular, but also Steve Tilson were taken by the Wolves -

but whats done is done

We had to sell Freddy wanted to move on, was he going to give 110% if we held on to him ?? Yes I think Wolves have got him on the cheap quite frankly whether its 1.5 or 2m, Fred was a proven scorer over 3 seasons not a one season wonder. Those Premiership clubs have money to burn and obviously fancied Nugent & Chopra but no Premiership team came in for Freddy, that shows they didn't think he'd cut it up there thats the difference

Chopra got 22 goals last season for Cardiff and their form dipped during spells when he was out of the team. He had longer to run on his contract. It's why £5m is the rate for him. Knock a year or 2 off his contract, score a goal a 2 less and the fee would have been very similar.

As for Nugent - how much do you think the minimum going rate for a current England internationalist is? If Freddy had got that far with England instead of Wales the fee might've been a teensy weeny bit higher.

Ultimately - it's supply and demand. If more clubs fancied him, the price would have shot up.

I think £5 mill is crazy money for Chopra, he's had one good season.

Nugent's fee could rise to £7 mill.

It's the new Sky Premiership contract thats to blame really.

Nugent price doesn't surprise me, he was a much better player than Freddy, the Chopra fee surprised me though. Thought he would be worth a few mill, but not quite £5million!

I don't entirely agree with your statement as Chopra was the second highest scorer in the Championship last season and Nugent has his days i.e. that quality goal vs Palace in teh FA Cup.
I think Nugent had a year or two left, not sure about Chopra as he only signed permantly for Cardiff last summer- i would presume 3 or 4 years?
But i do feel that Chopra's price is over the top a bit, but he did have a £5mil release clause, so thats why, Nugents...is reasonable but it amazes me how Pompey payed £6mil for him then go and spend £7mil on a player i have never heard of from the French League- Utaka??
