November!

Right i need some serious shrimperzone help here, my gf and i have booked 2 weeks off early november to have a last minute break somewhere warm.
Now this is where i come unstuck...I have never been away that late in the year and was wondering if any zoners could reccomend somewhere with some sunshine?
also my gf doesn't like flying so anything over 5 hours is pushing it.
Am i asking too much to expect sun in europe in November?
cheers dal

Don't know for sure, but I would expect the Eastern Med area is probably your best bet.

Maybe, i have looked on various websites to look for seasonal weather etc but to no avail. i would love to go to the carribean but she wont let me lol.

Don't know about the rest but Tenerife at that time is warm but often cloudy, so if you're expecting to sunbathe then not really an option. Lanzarote might be a better bet.

Just going on what the other half has said when he spent a couple of years flying all over Europe on business visiting various banks - Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece that sort of area.

Dubai would be perfect apart from its 7 hours

Any north african country, Egypt probably the pick for me as went there couple of years back.

Other up and coming destination is the Cape Verde islands which is off the coast of Africa.

I wonder who told you about that?

A fan perhaps, Stats? ? ?

Thailand , i went in November and it was scorcheo , but night times were nice and cool .

Obviously don't go to the sleazey parts and head out and stay on one of the many islands , i went to KOH CHANG ( elephant island) and it was amazing .

The place only had Electricity in early 90's so you can imagine its not that built up and idealic.

Within five hours
November is the last month in which you can find some reasonably reliable sun close to home, so I have come up with three options in this category.

Cyprus
Cyprus is far enough south and east to cling on to the Mediterranean summer well into November. As I write this, northern Greece is still suffering an appalling autumn of torrential rains, but Cyprus is bathing under clear skies and temperatures of 28-29 C. By November it is likely to be cooler but with highs around 22C and seven hours of sun. What's more, the sea is still warm enough to swim in.

Don't leave it too long, though: temperatures in December are 5C lower and there is much less sunshine.

Argo Holidays (0870 066 7070, www.argo-holidays.com) offers the Annabelle in Paphos from £750 b&b.

Marrakesh
Not only should you get good weather in Morocco's oasis city, you will also get excellent value for money.

In November the blistering summer heat has dissipated and Marrakesh is pleasantly warm (23C), dry (three wet days) and sunny (seven hours). It is also cool enough to sleep comfortably at night. This week has seen clear skies and temperatures in the high 20s-30C.

Best of Morocco (0845 026 4585, www.bestof morocco.co.uk) offers seven nights at the Villa des Orangers, Marrakesh, from £905, including breakfast and lunch.

Egypt
You have three main choices in Egypt - the Red Sea coast for beach resorts, a hotel-stay in Luxor, or a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, with perhaps a trip down to Cairo. November is arguably the best month of the year in Luxor. It won't rain, the sun will shine 10 hours a day, the temperature will peak at 30C, but it does not feel quite as hot as that suggests because the humidity is so low. What's more, the climate is so predictable that this summary is pretty much guaranteed. The Red Sea coast is normally three or four degrees cooler than Luxor. This week both places had virtually unbroken sunshine and temperatures in the low 30s.

Kuoni (01306 747737, www.kuoni.co.uk) offers the Sofitel Karnak near Luxor from £615 half board.

Oman
You don't want to be in Oman during the summer, but temperatures are getting more bearable and, during November, they fall to 30C, with clear skies from dawn to dusk and just a day of rain. It is quite humid, however, and hot (23C) at night, so you will need air-conditioning. In Muscat the sun shone all this week and temperatures were in the mid 30s.

Cazenove & Loyd (020 7384 2332, www.cazloyd.com) offers the Al Bustan Palace from £1,155 b&b.

Hope that's of use :)

Having been to Marrakech in November, I can confirm it is nice - but by no means blisteringly hot. It varied from about 16-23 deg C when we were there... and it was suprisingly cold at nights. It's a fascinating place, though - so much history and culture, and the souk in Marrakech is truly an assault on the senses. We stayed in an amazing couple of places - Bab Firdaus in Marrakech, and Dar Ness in Essaouira. Both were excellent.

My personal fave, within 5 hours' flight, is Jordan. We went in mid-September and, in the south, it was in the high 20s / low 30s. So, even by November, it should still be reasonably warm.

Jordan has it all
- great beaches in Aqaba
- some fantastic resorts and spas by the Dead Sea which the missus will love - can highly recommend Zara Spa, which is located within the Movenpick hotel - really lovely.
- the Dead Sea itself, which is bizarre and amusing. Unquestionably the saltiest sea in the world, you simply have to have a dip in it. Make sure you take a newspaper, so you can get those photos of you bobbing on the surface of the sea, reading your paper!

- Petra, which is truly one of the wonders of the world

- Wadi Rum, where Lawrence of Arabia hung out, some of the most stunning desert scapes and rock formations you'll ever see; and you can camp out with the Bedouin under the starry night skies (but you'll definitely need a warm sleeping bag in November - we went with Bedouin Roads)
- the amazing mosaics of Madaba
- Amman, a slightly chaotic but interesting place - and with some of the best falafel & houmous you'll have ever eaten in your life, just head to the old town.
- Jerash, which has some impressive Roman ruins

I can also recommend a local car hire company - Montecar. Very helpful and good value.

Jordan isn't mega-cheap, but it's cheaper than a lot of more obvious holiday destinations. The vast majority of people speak English, the locals are friendly and not obviously anti-European or anti-English, there are great beaches, good food, great resorts, and some stunning history and culture to experience.

Direct flights are with BA, BMI and Royal Jordanian... all about the £500 mark return. So, not amazingly cheap to get there (although nowhere's that cheap to fly to, any more), but pretty reasonable once you're there.

What's not to like?

:)

Phew. I thought we were going to be treated to some pics of MtS in his lime green Speedos sitting in the Dead Sea reading The Times.

Or is that being saved for later?
