They were definitely trying to get the guy down, but I don't think he grabbed the wire to kill himself, it was more a nonchalant grab to steady himself as he walked along the roof of the train.
 
Didn't realise how powerful the current that runs through overhead cables is. Till then!

If the video was of what I think, I used to see loads of these. Saw one narrated by Stuart Hall where a bloke's skin literally melted away from his bones when he touched the OHL.

Still see it on a regular basis - especially on the third rail system (750V), not to mention stupid kids playing chicken with 125mph trains.

And I agree with Tom, very ghoulish to have this as "entertainment".
