I can't believe so many people have written us off already. I think people are being overly critical on Ipswich here. I thought Ipswich looked a decent enough team but, crucially, clinical. It's only saddening that our usual clinical source of goals somehow misfired. I can't believe that anyone said those were three of the softest/worst goals you'll see. Legwinski's technique was magnificent and his accuracy no worse. Clarke should have been marked better but then surely the other was a counter-attack with a very tidy finish from Lee who I felt impressed throughout. You can see he's a willing and keen worker but he can also carry the ball at pace and looks clinical.
Perhaps the reason I'm not as down as many is that I rated Ipswich better than, for instance, Coventry.
In terms of individual performances, Francis looked like he's out of position but he seems to be learning. I think the strategy is a decent one. I'm not sure why Hunt is getting such a bashing, I thought the combination of the two wasn't too bad. Part of it could be that Hunt never defends right in front of where I sat. I would also say that Clarke was better than Barrett. What Adam was doing before the Legwinski goal, I have no idea but the ball should have gone out.
IMO, we're barely reaching the standard that got us promoted let alone raising our game. The biggest factor? I would say confidence. The lack of tempo seems to be a result of a worrying lack of confidence. As soon as Eastwood had his chance, you could see the team was lifted by us until they scored again.
It's disappointing and a setback but I don't believe there wasa genuine lack of effort there. Right now, players seem to be looking at each other and wondering how they're going to win a game. I'm also not going to say anything about getting behind them. Support for players isn't unequivocal. They need to find confidence from inner strength somehow. This certainly seems the biggest test of Tilson's ability so far.
We're most certainly not down by any stretch. Three wins and we'd be hauled out of any sort fo danger straight away. By all accounts, Burnley showed we can compete against the best teams in the division. If we can only concentrate for ninety minutes in defence and go in to the end of a match competing for a result, we can start picking up the points I feel our squad i capable of.
