Shrimp in a Kilt

Guest
The Shrimp in a Kilt annual trip to Cardiff - same as the last trip.

Enjoyed meeting Canada Shrimper, OS, Mrs. OS, and It's Grim up North.

Was supposed to be on the pitch for the parade of shirts. Arrived literally 20 seconds too late, and had to watch everyone else vanish down the tunnel.

Was supposed to watch the Blues stuff Wrexham and collect the cup - we all know what happened.

Had then to drive North to the M6 surrounded by hoards of victorious red-shirted fans gloating as they cruised past, just like last year, while my kids questioned my sanity non-stop for hours - they are thinking of suing me for involving them with Southend..

(Edit) I was the idiot wandering around in a kilt, BTW, if anyone noticed.....

Drove all night and got home at 10:30 this morning. Discovered that I had managed to leave the extremely nice bottle of wine I was given by OS at my brother's house in Oxford. My good lady had promised to tape the match for me. She hadn't. I am still trying to decide whether this is a good thing or not. I am knackered, broke, deeply depressed  and in the dog-house.

I saw you but you'd disappeared into the melee near the bar before I could introduce myself. Maybe next year....

Just to explain the

at the end of the post above, personally I hope I never set eyes on the Millennium Stadium again. Perhaps I'll feel better in a few days but at the moment I'd be happy if we didn't even ENTER the LDV until the final's at the new Wembley. Perhaps we'd have more luck there....

I know exactly how you feel. 3 and a half hours without a goal at that blessed place. If we get to the play-off final, I'm really not sure that I'd be able to drag myself down again....

Fortunately most fans aren't like you, CS J...and, despite you, if, God forbid, the shrimpers £7 million debt causes your team problems, the likes of Wrexham, BHA, Cambridge and Sunderland will be the first fans at RH to show support for you, but there again, you are probably the type of person who would resent that as well.

Anyway......shouldn't you have gone back to school today, I am sure the nurseries were open again??

Sort it out, CSJ - that's out of order.

As Barton Bank rightly points out, we're still £7m in debt. We may find ourselves needing help from the likes of Wrexham - will they want to come and help us when you've gone round alienating everyone who has the temerity to spoil our day?

Get a grip.

I did think of doing that, but I thought that you probably had your hands full sorting out the shirts, and the lady said that one of the mascots mum's had volunteered to help, so I left it. I watched the parade from the middle tier while I tied up my "Lion Rampant" SUFC flag, and the whole thing looked great. And I got my name read out anyway...

Blatantly untrue, CS J, and you know better.  You are denying yourself the better part of being a footie fan. It is easy to blinker yourself to any club but Southend, and to despise anyone who doesn't have the (undeniably) good taste to follow them, but then you deny yourself the pleasure of meeting people like GoochDogHighFives, or BartonBankWrexham, or thousands like them who love their club but love the whole game of football too. Read through the threads, and see how often people have had their weekend made by enjoying banter and a friendly drink with fellow football fans. For the duration of the match I tried with all the other Blues fans to outsing the Wrexham fans, and to spur Southend on to victory. Losing was very bitter indeed this year. But that doesn't make the Wrexham fans into demons, or justify wholesale abuse of all in red.

I hate to see teams go out of the league, or struggling to survive in the face of poor crowds or evil owners. That might have been us. It still could be us. We need, and always will, all the friends we can get. So Chill.

Thats got to be worthy of a yellow card. Its blatantly the most pathetic post I've read in a long long time.

Oh dear. SO off the mark it's untrue and I haven't even got to the drivel entitled "Wrexham fans are a disgrace" or whatever the hell it says.

Whatever experiences you've had with some fans is a personal grievance. For instance, Cardiff have a terrible rep as fans but we had a chat with a fan in the POW and he was a top bloke who was well informed about us.

Before the kit march, there was a genuine feel of fans united and this is so true at our level. We can't afford to let any of our number fall out of the system at the expense of the Premiersh*te

(Shame I had to stand next to a West Ham shirt though
