Northampton

Before I forget, and I'll post this next Friday as well, there's some nasty road works coming off jcn 15A of the M1 to Sixfields. I'd advise coming off at 15 and going through Northampton (though that could be messy on a saturday) or adding a good half hour to your travelling time.

How about coming from A14 MK?

From Glasgow, theaa.com reckon J16 is your baby so I assume avoiding the roadworks.

Coming from the sarf it suggests J15a as the one.

Lots of speed cameras on the A14 if I recall correctly.

Might even be as easy from here to go to J16 and comeback down. Dont seem that far. Depends how far J15a is from J16 or how much traffic there is from J15 as MK suggested.

I put A14 as I'm coming across from Stowmarket though. I'll have a quick gawp at the AA website & check if J16's the one!

Yes, loads of cameras on A14, especially between Cambridge & A1 roundabout

I'm pretty familiar with Northampton as I used to live there and my mum still does. I'd definitely recommend coming off at J16 as it's only a couple of miles further on than 15A. From there it's only about 10-15 minutes drive to Sixfields and it's all dual carriageway so it should be straightforward. J15 is OK too but is more built up and therefore more prone to traffic jams on busy days.

So any clue about coming from A14 direction then? AA says to go A428 but IIRC that will take me through both Bedford & Northampton town-centres. I thought it best to go to Kettering/Wellingborough on A14 then cut down to Northampton (A605 is it?)

If you are coming in on A14 from the East then I suggest coming off onto A45, straight past Wellingborough - all the way to Northampton. If you stay on there it forms part of the Northampton ring road and will allow you to skirt round the town to Sixfields.

On another note people should be aware that the Npton Saints Rugby ground is aprox half a mile away from Sixfields. They kick off at 2.00 and usual gate is aprox 10,000. Traffic is going to be very busy around both grounds so get there early!

Well i live in Northampton and take it from me J15 a will be fine for coming off...on a saturday around 1.30 pm a14s best bet to travel up to kettering and turn left for northampton, at this point your are approx 35 mins from the ground......junc 16 approx 4.35 min on from 15a and a further 7 mins to the ground.....best get my tickets although vice president of cobblers has offered me a meal & hospitality for the game.....i said no thanks want to be with my mates behind the goal.....Just about to leave for todays game ....could only get south lower...but hey ho heres to a good day...

Are the Saints at home on the same day, then? When I lived in Northampton they used to stagger the fixtures so that the Saints and Cobblers were never both at home the same week.

Just Got back......well had to pop into see mum as you do......Sth Lower is frustrating not for the view but the kids that bang he seats up & down and foul language !!.....i thought on the whole we outplayed Carlisle for long periods but lack the killer finish......also again to many sloppy passes.....Carlisle do play football similar to us pass it about which was good to see.......there keeper kept em in it.....etc etc.... I could go on but hey pick ourselves up and lets stuff cobblers next weekend......a local game at last.....

I'll be using the A14 as that's much better than the M1 at the moment, with roadworks as you join from the M25 for 5 miles or so. However the section of the A14 north of the M11 has AVERAGE speed cameras all the way up, so for those who have the facility, set the cruise control to about 72 mph, (as you are still allowed a tolerence at the moment), set back and enjoy the journey.;)
