Question Northampton - was it over the line?

TJC

Muppet⭐🦐
When the Northampton goalie stumbled backwards from a catch, did the ball cross the line?
Crowd cheers down the south end of the ground suggested it had? Any witnesses on the line?

The players didnt make that big a deal of it really did they? Usually they would have surrounded the lino if they really believed that the whole of the ball crossed the whole of the line...

I agree the players didn't react too much, but that cheer was more than 1 or 2 fans believing it was over the line.
Got the result we wanted in the end, and what a star Johnny Herd is. My MoM for sure!

no i dont think it did - but the whole of the south rose as one to try and claim it - i think we all thought it was the only way we would score yesterday!!!:)

Was sitting south upper directly above the goal, and gotta say the goalie caught the ball and then two steps back into the goal with the ball to his chest and then pushed it forward. So not sure if the lino saw the ball go over the line or jus see him with outstreched arms and not give it.

However, I'm 99% sure it did cross the line and I'm 99% sure it was a valid goal ruled out. We won though, so doesn't really matter in the end. :)

The lino missed loads of stuff anyway, there was no way he would have called it.

If the South can organise sycronised appeals like that, its got to be worth a goal or two a season with the easily swayed refs in this league. Keep it up

From the South Upper it looked close but unlikely. Unbiased as we are, unlikely was quickly put aside while "close" was generally taken to mean blatant goal. This of course brought about fervent goal celebrations and questions thus remain about the ref and lino's parentage.

From where I sat it looked over - Even Dad of DtS jumped up which is most unlike him.

Their keeper was fairly fast to get rid of the ball which always indicates a bit of guilt to me.

I was in the West Family, pretty much as close and you get to the touchline and I thought it was in.

Indeed, I rose to my feet and yelled some helpful advice to the lino, which is most unlike me. I'd say it was in.

Agreed Dave looked over to me and the keeper could get rid of the ball quick enough.

Fairly conclusive for me then if you thought so.

As I said, for him to take two steps back and not carry the ball over the line he must have pretty long arms. From where I was I was sure it was over the line, but then I was in the West Stand pretty much on the half way line!

The lino's were dreadful yesterday, and was nowhere near in line with it so if it had of crossed the line there was no way he was going to give it.
