Non brand crisps of distinction.

Has anyone got any decent non-brand crisp recommendations?

I am currently into Kolak Chilli and Lemon flavour crisps which can be found in the ethnic foods aisle in Tesco or the 99p shop on Canvey Island.

Kolak do a number of other Indian inspired flavours and the curry/chutney ones aren't bad either.

I don't believe it ..bloody foreigners have now taken over OUR crisps.

Tilson out!

I was also a fan of Sainsbury's cover version of Smiths Scampi Fries, imaginatively named 'Ocean Fries'.

Unfortunately these seem to have been phased out a few years ago.

M&S Cheese Puffs are the king of snacks.

That is all.
Do you mean the ones that are like little orangey cheesy footballs? Haven't had them in years but used to be a special treat when we went to my grandparents! M&S also used to do very nice sour cream and chive crinkled crisps - but then this is not just any old own brand, this is M&S and most of their stuff is nice!

Makro own brand tortilla chips are very good, and less than a quarter of the price of Doritos.

Highlanders and hedgehogs (although not seen latter for a while). kids love pom bears...

had masala flavoured crisps in India which were OK, better than the idea of masala flavoured popcorn.

Again, not quite a non-brand crisp/snack, but this thread has made me think of them - what the hell happened to Burton's Fish and Chips? How on earth could a snack food so ridiculously addictive completely disappear?

Come to think of it, the same goes for piglets...

I would like to know why Frazzles and other bacon fries bother with the red stripes down the side. Surely nobody is fooled into thinking they are really eating bacon? The red dye probably isn't good for you and it would be better if it was removed and replaced by extra salt.

See, I used to love Frazzles, but I dont know if it's me or not, but they taste ever so salty these days...

i completely agree. frazzles used to be amazing, but now as u say they've got salty. how much are space raiders nowadays? pickled onion space raiders for 10p, those were the days.

A packet of Frazzles turns a pedestrian £1.20 Pret egg mayonnaise sandwich into a £3.00 all day breakfast spectaular.

A useful tip in the middle of a recession. You may get some odd looks at work when rebuilding your sandwich however.

I recently rediscovered spicy tomato snaps in a newsagent in Leeds.

Possibly the only city in the UK where lawyers and doctors queue to buy lunch from Gregs (seriously).
