Maldon Shrimper

First XI⭐
Hi fellow Shrimpers, the next 4 games could well define our season. I know there are still a lot of games to be played and as we know anything can happen as this weekend has shown. But if we can collect a decent number of points from these games it will show if we are going to on course for autos or the playoffs again.

Yes I agree, 3 out of those 4 games will be tough in my opinion, thinking 3 draws (Wimbledon, Wycombe & Burton) and a win at the daggers. So 6 points added to the tally, but I would obviously be over the moon with anymore we can collect.

I would have put us down for an away win at Wimbledon, but upon closer inspection, their home record is exactly the same as our away record (abeit they have a slightly better goal difference than us).

Wombles at home = Played 16 / Won 8 / Drawn 3 / Lost 5 / Gd +7
Southend away = Played 16 / Won 8 / Drawn 3 / Lost 5 / Gd -2

For March I have predictions for a draw, two wins, a loss, then a draw and a win..........that's 11 points out of 18. Is that enough??:unsure:

For March I predict 10 points (on a calender month From our next match on the 3rd March until the 3rd April) I predict 13 points with a home win against Mansfield town.

Looking further ahead, April is looking like an ideal opportunity to collect some points on our final push towards the automatic promotion places, with teams that should look some what comfortable on paper (such as Mansfield, Hartlepool and Tranmere) as well as mid table teams such as Exeter and morecambe on the final day of the season. The only tricky ones currently i see is our home games with Luton and Newport.

Anyway as Maldon Shrimper wrote, this season anything can happen, especially as we get towards the end of the season, when we are playing supposed weaker teams but they will be fighting alot harder to try to avoid relagation.

UTB

Pretty simple. Good March equals auto contention...anything less then play offs beckon...Please not the play offs again

Difficult not to agree with that. March is either down to maintaining our hopes for an automatic place or seeing them virtually destroyed. Twelve points is what I see as the minimum being required to keep us in the automatic chase..... that would leave us a point or two off my target for certain promotion but it may well be sufficient. We could be helped out, like yesterday, with teams above us slipping up but then again, dropping points could mean other sides breathing down our necks. On a simple reading we need to win our games against AFCW, Daggers & Cambridge, whilst getting at least three points from the three 'difficult' games against Bury, Burton and Wycombe ...........yet, as we all know life doesn't always work out like that.......especially with Southend United. Will Shrewsbury and Burton avoid turning their two game blip into a three match run without wins? Will Wycombe extend their two games without defeat into an undefeated run on three? Will Luton and us maintain our recovery, following two defeats? Will Bury maintain their series of five without defeat and three consecutive victories? ..........and Newport.........well, who the hell knows what Newport are going to do next! All in all a fascinating month in prospect, with plenty of games to keep us on our toes.

There has certainly been a consist pattern to our inconsistent form this season. After 33 games we have 57 points, about 1.7 PPG (points per game)

August - 1.4 PPG (below season average)
September - 2.6 PPG (above season average)
October - 0.4 PPG (below season average)
November - 3.0 PPG (above season average)
December - 1.3 PPG (below season average)
January - 2.2 PPG (above season average)
February - 1.4 PPG (below season average)
March - (above season average)??
April - (below season average)??

If we continue that pattern, then we could be getting around 15 points in March and maybe 7 in April. Meaning we would go into the final game with 79 points and possibly needing a win to secure automatic promotion ...
