New Zealand vs Bahrain

Second leg of the World Cup qualifying play-off in just under 2 hours. 0-0 in the first leg so all to play for, apparently Wellington (my wife's home town) has gone football crazy. For a country where Rugby is basically a rleigion that takes some doing. Will be watching it on TV tonight and being an honarary Kiwi for the duration of the match, Come On The All Whites!

Would it be possible for the Aussies and Kiwis to be drawn in the same group? That'd be funny.

Knowing FIFA and the daft way the draw is set-up, who knows...?

They won't be seeded the same I wouldn't have imagined (Aussie should be in the 3rd pot of seeds, Kiwi's 4th seeds) so it could be a possibility.

Most Aussie's want to draw us though....but I don't know if I'm too keen on that idea myself. Whilst we should beat them it's not beyond the realms of possibilities they could upset us. If that happened I'd have to move back to the UK, I don't think I could handle the humiliation

It could be possible that we draw the All Whites or England in the group. Would love to have England in the group. 3-1 Upton Park best day in Australian football up there with Uruguay and Japan. We struggle against the All Whites so wouldn't be too happy to get them. Can't wait to December 4 and the draw.

Here we go...I get this from Aussies all the time. It was a friendly, no-one in England gave a monkeys about it before the match and barely gave it more than a second thought after....for goodness sake Sven changed the whole team at half-time! Get over it ;)

Add the very fact it was played at Crapton Park surely means it doesn't count anyway

Expunge it from the records please !!

As an aside to this i watched one of my lads DVDs last night, it was about England qualifying for Euro 2004 and was almost painful to watch .. it seemed like we were behind at half time in half the matches and when you see our group had Macedonia and Slovakia (decent now admittedly) then you'll know what i mean .. i think we take for granted the job Capello has done for the national team, turning them from this shower of **** to the side we are today .. injuries permitting of course .. ie not Saturday

While I tend to agree with you Lee, Eriksson had plenty of critics but he never failed to get England to qualify, and under him it was a quarter final in two World Cups and one Euro, which is probably our limit. Under McClaren (and others) we didn't qualify.

I see England under Capello as much better organised, but I still don't see us getting further than a Q/F spot next year. I hope I am wrong, but Spain, Italy, Brazil & Holland are far better than England at the moment.

I couldn't agree less H. Italy are a pale shadow of the team that won the trophy in Germany and I think England would deal with them handily. The Brazil side we saw on Saturday looked pretty average to me and I'm confident that a full strength England side would have been more than a match for them. Holland ran the table in a pitifully weak qualifying group but didn't look that impressive in drawing at home to a below strength England side - they've also become specialists at imploding in tournaments since they won at Euro '88. I'll concede Spain are a stong side, but they're hardly unbeatable, just ask the USA. The conditions favour a northern European side winning this time round, and I would pick either England or Germany to lift the trophy.

For the first half you had your best squad out there and lost 2-0. Sorry Libertine but I don't think Aussies will forget that in a hurry many celebrated then and are still cheering to this day. I'm just hoping the FA's of both of our countries can sort out another clash between the two countries. Mind you FIFA might do this for us on December 4.

Oh believe me, you don't to tell me that ;)

I just think it's funny when Aussie's don't believe me when I say that they aren't our biggest sporting rival. As I explain to them, whilst they may be our biggest rivals in cricket and rugby our main sport is football and they aren't even on the radar when it comes to that.

I've had some quite, shall we say - heated discussions with Aussie's on this subject. The football fans get it, but the non football fans generally don't. One taxi driver in Brisbane once said to me "just admit that as an Englishman the one country you want to beat above all others is Australia". He would not believe me when I said I'd swap every Ashes win in history for one England victory against ANYONE in a Football World Cup Final.

I never mentioned anything about England wanting to beat Australia. I certainly understand a clash against Spain or France or Ireland as a more important clash than Australia. For us though it is our World Cup final. I think it's just good to see Australia doing half decent in the World Cup and against bigger nations seeing as we've been in the doldrums for the last 20 years. I fully understand that football is the biggest sport in England. Given the bad luck the English have had in the 90's with World Cup and Euros.

Oh and about the heated debates. Expect them to continue next year around the time Australia and England plays in the World Cup.

Yeah still can't get over that one and first time its been raised on this forum. Australia made more runs and took more wickets yet failed to perform at crucial time which eventually cost us the Ashes. Fair result too need to perform when pressure is on.

At least we'll smash you when you arrive in 12 months for Australian tour.

Ah Rory Fallon. Another one, that despite lots of effort on our part, got away.
