New Years Honours list

RHB

Return to Modnomor Mountain⭐⭐🦐
I think it was Ricey who said somewhere that gongs are given away like sweeties these days. Now I've had a quick run through this year's list there are some 'famous' names that do come into the 'Really?' category for me. I'm not going to name my 'really?' candidates as it's still the season of goodwill but wouldn't it be nice if the media concentrated on some of the unsung heroes who actually deserved theirs? Can't wait for 13:00 today by the way, bit like Christmas Eve. COYB

Happy New Year everybody:happy:

Highlighting a lady on BBC Breakfast news who has been a poppy seller since the 1950s and someone else who was one of the first Samaritans - these are the people it should be all about....not sportsmen and women who collect honours like Pandora charms!!!

Don't get all the outrage over sportsmen and women, etc., sure some may not deserve it but it's the unheard of businessmen who donate £930,000 to the Conservative party and get a knighthood and the like that are taking the mickey.

Have to say I cringe every time these awards come out and the reasons for being given. In one paper a Kate Middleton favourite handbag designer has been given one -Really and as for Victoria Beckham being given it for her work in fashion she does that to make a hell of a lot of money and no other reason. I really despaired when I saw some of them ...........and then I read all the awards in the Telegraph and people that have genuinely and tiredlessly given something back have been given something. Regardless of this I still feel they should now scrap all this.

It's as if they're thinking "We've got two hundred of these to dish out, who can we give them to?"
"Ooh, I dunno. There must be someone!"

It's actually a lot more ordered and difficult to get nominations accepted. There are strict criteria which have to be met and even when your submission for someone is spot on in your eyes there is no guarantee that anything will come from it via the selection committee. Least ways that's how it works for 'normal' folk. Who does the nominations for the likes of Ken Dodd is beyond my comprehension.

Dodge tax, get knighted. I think Barna might be up for one next year.:winking:

Sir Ken Dodd was acrually aquitted so I'd hate to have some of you on my jury. I think the knighthood is well deserved. Years ago they had a show called something along the lines of the Gardener's gardener, the Chefs chef, you get the idea. The Comdeians comeduan was won by Sir Kenneth by a country mile.

On the basis that the Queen died two weeks ago my expectation is that we will turn into a republic and won't be faced with this issue at the end of this year

If true will she count in the dead pool 2017 ?
Technically should be 2016

The only person deserving of their award was the leader of a Council in the West Midlands who got an MBE for services to comedy names. Well done Bob Sleigh MBE - look it up.....
